Good team to hire from, cautiously excited but it would be nice to hear how involved he was with certain picks/drafts (not sure if anything has been posted).

This is a great hire since we’ll probably be tapping into his network.

Maybe we can bring over Joe McDonnell.

good luck and hopefully he can poach a few of their top scouts

also probably not the type of person who'll go way off the board just so he can look like a genius if the odd one hits like the guy he just replaced

What have been Wes' off the board picks that we can judge how they are trending so far?

Minten, Cowan, and Greb?

Definitely looks like he is taking guys just so he can look like a genius if the odd one hits... what happens if he goes 100%?

3rd Planet From Sun.
At least Treliving has shown that he respects the draft by keeping his 1st's (2 for 2) and adding a 2nd Rd'er. If Dubas was driving the bus we likely don't have Cowan or Danford and the 2nd next year.
Dubas acquired the pick that turned into Cowan and then didn’t trade it before the deadline.
The scouting staff he built then picked Cowan, Tre wasn’t even allowed to be involved with the pick.

There is no reason to think Cowan wouldn’t have been drafted by us if he had stayed. Dubas failed here in many different ways, you don’t need to make up more to put him down. He screwed up enough without it.

Great analysis... complain about reaching for picks, get asked who he reached on, then deflect because you know your post was idiotic.

Bravo.

Funny that Brian Hayes called this. Almost jokingly said they should go out and hire the best guy from Dallas.

i said he went off the board which is right

all 3 of our first picks in the last 3 drafts and our 4th rd pick this year which looks exactly like the type of guy Bergman would say to take a flyer on with one of our 6th or 7th rd picks

and as i said at the time of the draft , there's nothing wrong or do i have any issues with going off the board but if you do it every draft with our first pick it starts to give off the smartest guy in the room vibe

first Dubas and now Clark , you really seem to have a very strange attachment to former Leaf employees

Holy Trev W

How did we steal this guy from Jim Nill? I thought Wes Clark may have been a loss at the time, but this is a hilariously huge upgrade.

Wes could only dream of accomplishing in his career what Leach has done in the past, and Leach is still superior in the present.

I can only assume they gave him a hefty raise and title upgrade to split from his pal Jim Nill. It's a reverse Wes in that Leach is leaving his pal instead of joining his pal.
Yes,
the leafs should be paying top dollar and getting some real scouts

Seems like a great hire.

But without a 2nd rounder for the next couple years, no first next, and the 2026 1st probably gone (doubt Tre goes 3x consecutive years without trading a first), his work won’t bear fruit for 5+ years.

Brad is just continuing to make the right decisions. It's going to take some time to undo the damage of the previous regime, but we have the right guy in place now.

Looks like we're going for old school hockey men with a resume.

We have a 2nd rounder next year. We traded a 2nd this year (#58) for Florida's 2nd next year.

Late steals quickly became a calling card of Leach’s career, as he pushed the Wings to pursue Jimmy Howard, Johan Franzen, and Justin Abdelkader. The quintet would step up as cornerstones of Detroit’s lineup across the early 2010s, though Leach would move on to an amateur scouting role with the Dallas Stars in 2013.

The legend followed Leach south, quickly pushing him into a prominent role with the Stars. He recalled the franchise-defining 2017 Draft class to Saad Yousuf of The Athletic, sharing the hands-on role he played in the team’s selection of Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson, and Jake Oettinger.

This definitely looks and feels like a solid hire.

Great to have someone looking to find talent for the club rather than thinking about joining his real boss elsewhere.

Hopefully the team starts hanging on to some of its higher picks.

Great pickup, however wake me up when our Leafs actually have draft picks for Mark to make magic with.

Hopefully, his ability to have good input on post draft prospects is top notch.

Thanks Dubas, I think you stealing Clarke is just what our Leafs needed.

Hey Dallas, if you want to punish our Leafs, feel free to rob Marner from them.

Finally our Fortune 500 company has decided to deploy a REAL GM and REAL Coach and now REAL Director of Amateur Scouting.

The days of dumpster diving for MLSE management is no longer contained to the Soo Greyhounds and junior incompetence, without experience and even worse without success.

Mark Leach's resume reads like Hall of Fame worthy career with decades upon decades of success at his job that lead to NHL success through the players he provided.

This is becoming an exciting time to be a Leafs fan, now we just need to get Mark some draft picks back so he can go to work after the scorched earth actions of past management.

That is exciting if he had a big role in the 2017 draft, and it sounds like he did.

I am curious to know how much of the development of these players is because of other staff that help with the development side of things and if there is knowledge that can be shared there or people brought in.

The Detroit stuff is good, but it's over ~15 years so I'm less enthused.

How is a mod the biggest troll on the board?

A scout (not even someone leading a drafting department) has had a hall of fame worthy career? No one can be this clueless, can they?
