Confirmed with Link: Leafs Hire Jim Hiller as Head Coach

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Congrats to our latest Sportsbook winners - GOLD MEDAL kihei, SILVER MEDAL fish7 and BRONZE MEDAL Sammy Kat - new tournament begins today 6/15
I’m encouraged that Hiller isn’t married to one rigid style. He seems willing to adapt the system to fit the strengths of the team, which makes it feel like we could be getting back to a more lethal and exciting brand of hockey, hopefully something closer to 2017–18.

That's really how it feels.
I wonder if other teams have fallen for this ?
To an extent Tampa went from a very skilled team in 17-18 and 18-19 to adding coleman, goodrow, schenn, bogosian, savard, cernak and a few others to give them that grindy, physical aspect to compliment their skilled core

but for the most part, either teams weren't good enough to make the playoffs as regularly as us so it didn't matter to them or they won in their style enough to justify running it back.

we had the displeasure of getting the best (worst?) of both worlds lol

its unfortunate that the league shifted the opposite of where we went

when we went skilled and fast, the league shifted to heavy and physical

when it shifted back, we had already 180'd to fit that mold

having to play this watered down version of tampa that is way more skill and finesse, or the fricking buffalo sabres instead of the chara led bruins did things to the philosophy

The combined 250000 year old brain trust of the Leafs are coming around 2010 hockey. The geezers and cigar club crew are working on it. Probably thinking up ways to incorporate a dinosaur into the Leafs logo or something senile.

Has the full presser been posted here?

I wouldn't say I was thrilled this morning but it's growing on me, and now more than happy to give this a shot to see how it plays out. He said all the right things, lets see if he can execute,

Keefe hockey with a better defense and more depth would have gotten us very far.

After a game our D core goes to... Rehab, or Old age home, or the other rehab on an island. The animated corpse of Reilly ain't getting us a cup.

Need to step away, appreciate you guys and your opinion and hope the new Leafs experiment works. It's just a new NuHockey with a new Dubas that's returning to the league after 6 years.

Least surprising thing ever?
If Matthews is motivated enough to pot 50 the Leafs will be a playoff certainty.

He was assistant when Matthews (et al) was just entering the league, sometimes those memories can spark a guys memories of the good times. Sort of like that first puppy love you had in high school who you meet a decade later and you are both blushing and laughing at each others jokes that aren't really funny.

Roy would've been fun. I remember the Kings teams against the Oilers played pretty well, despite being very outmatched, so maybe not a bad coach after all.

Don’t forget, this team looked dangerous back in 2017–18 when it had a lot of young talent, and Hiller was part of that group. I’d love to see that kind of style come back.

It’s easy to see why Matthews and Nylander would be excited about him returning.

Wasn't he part of the Badcock bench?

Not possible since Matthews is injured :sarcasm:

Anc how little they’re paying him?

I wish somehow the Leafs could just become a undesirable Phoenix type team that is broke and had a very simple operations group that was built by fans for fans. I just know the Leafs would bounce back, it's the kind of reset that has to happen. They need to bankrupt, they need a new everything and lease on franchise.

That's the key to restoring our team. I know it.
