Two second rounders isn't too bad if there's two players. Gio for a 2nd + value, Blackwell for the remaining value. It's a pricey rental, but Gio is a top4 defenseman and Blackwell looks like a quality bottom sixer. It does a great job addressing depth at both forward and defense, and at a cheaper price then Ben freaking Chiarot. I'm not overly excited about spending draft capital on rentals, but if we're going to do rentals this is what I want them to look like.
The thing is, if things work out, we may be able to talk him into one year extensions cheap like Spezza until he has to go out to pasture.
I don't think he is there yet.

Lindholm has never been as good as Giordano, and Gio has faced much [much] harder comp.

1 year comp I'd rather Gio and it's not remotely close.
Yeah even one for one I'd take Giordano. Add in Vaakanainen, the first round pick, the big Lindholm extension, and Blackwell going the other way makes it not close. I can't imagine complaining about making this trade instead of the Lindholm one

I'm mixed on this one. I'd be unhappy if we gave up all of that just for Giordano but Blackwell is included and while he's not an impact player he should help. Giordano also helps obviously. Hopefully he can kick it up a gear to something like he used to be for the playoff run.

The longer term trend of bleeding assets continues but that's another discussion. If you're trying to win the Cup then you have to do something and the move helps the team now as the don't lose any significant active players (since Dermott wasn't playing much).

Not a bad price to pay for good upgrades at both forward and defence. Increasing the team's pool of pending UFAs with these deals but hopefully there can be some re-signings if things go well.

While I'm kind of rolling my eyes at the 5'9 on Blackwell's stats sheet, I'm also looking at our fourth line and thinking this is a real nice depth pickup. He puts up 3rd line offense, and our fourth line has been ineffective for a while now.

No 1st rounders or top prospects given up....gotta love this move by Dubas. Got a competitive hometown D who will slide into our top 4 and be an all situations guy for us. And a high motor, high intensity player in Blackwell who at the very least will add an engine to our 4th line. Wonder if that's that, or if Dubas has one more up his sleeve before deadline tomorrow

Blackwell and Gio for Dermott and 2x 2nds.

Meh. Might be a good trade. I was hoping we could also get rid of Mrazek's full cap hit at the same time....

It could turn out extremely well, of course. Gio reunited with Brodie on a top-5 league-wide team. And Blackwell might actually be sneaky killer.

Big extension? They got Lindholm signed for cheaper than Rielly

I am very much hoping we do. If this helps with that, I'm happy, I think this will be a great fit for team and player.
