Er, what? Grabovski played very well under Carlyle last year. Carlyle even called Grabovski an "energizer bunny" and was impressed by him.

Grabo line was on the ice for most of the important defensive shifts. They also started the game against montreals top line.

I think Carlyle is just asking them to play more responsible defence and try to shut down the opposition rather than run and gun.

Grabo is a good center, takes a beating every night for his team.

There will always be some who hate on Kessel no matter how he does. It's the same with every other player such as Phaneuf or Komisarek.

I know. He quietly had a very good game. He was dumping the puck in and doing everything right for the most part. I thought Kessel was very good this game.

There was some penalties at the beginning etc so Randy decided not to go with his "fresh rookie card" in the (first big game). He'll play more in the future, but I thought it was a good thing for Randy to play more with his more experienced knights and horses. Kadri is still a grunt and foot soldier. Randy tends to go with vets more in these types of big games. Gotta get that first win and you don't get it with Kadri playing 15 minutes D-game, especially in the third.

Gotta agree with this. Carlyle did the right thing in not overplaying Kadri and limiting his minutes. He'll give him what he deserves over time.

I really like Carlyle's coaching.

When he makes changes to his line ups in the game you can actually understand his train of thought.

With Ron Wilson...if one line isn't working he'd break up the line that is working and make it worse.

Kadri was out on the ice with 90 seconds left to go in the game....Carlyle coached a great game.

You're only saying that because it's true.

Not only that but the style Carlyle coachs is almost perfect against a team like Montreal whos small and not overly physical with a questionable defence. We literally won the race to loose pucks about 90% of the time tonight besides a stretch in the 3rd. This team wont be nearly as exciting compared to the Wilson days but they will be a better team and much harder to play against.

Again Montreal without Subban is really really bad.

Orr was also out late in the 3rd period as Leafs protected the lead. That's the difference between he and Ron Wilson.

Wilson would give Rosehill or Orr a shift, they would bloody up their knuckles for the team and then Wilson would treat them like meat by pasting their butts to the bench for the remainder of the game.

Carlyle understands players, Kessel and the guys would notice this and play harder for each other when a coach goes out of his way by not marginalizing a team mate.

I thought so too. But yeah in the end there were some icings etc, Randy would have taken that fresh fish out! Right at the end there were Grabovski, Kulemin and others on the ice.

Been hard on Kadri but this is by far the best I've seen him. If he keeps up this pace, no question he will stick. Also Kostka was pretty good. Would like for somehow Fraser and Holzer to get in on Monday as Buffalo is a pretty physically tough team.

Also glad Kadri was kept in the AHL so long. He looks hungry out there, no doubt he is very eager to crack the club.

I agree....Carlyle understand the game so much better....I like Orr on this team under Carlyle but not under Wilson.....Orr with play his heart out for Carlyle and Carlyle will praise him for it. Orr will not be used as a circus side show....and the leafs opponents know this. Carlyle will not hesitate to send him after someone, minor or not!

He played a great game away from the puck....the whole line struggled offensively but defensively were our best line, hence the most ice time.

Actually they were the line that had the hardest time getting the puck out in the 3rd period... Kulemin was at fault for the lone goal given up as he had time to get the puck out past the blue line didn't do it and the D was out of position because of it yet people blame Phaneuf cause the talking heads on TV said so :shakehead

Carlyle matches lines heavy especially while playing with the lead. He's put trust into that line as his line matched up vs the opponents top lines and used them as such + Kulemin and Grabo were used on the PK + PP that's why they had more ice time than others... I think having Kadri, Komarov and JVR out there with a 1min left was telling to how Carlyle felt the MGK line played in the 3rd in in spite of there ice time... more 3rds like that while playing with the lead you can bet they'll be parked on the bench.

All and all it was almost a perfect team road win why are we so critical of some players right now I don't understand. It's hockey people mistakes will happen we really have to stop with the negativity especially after a road win.

The played a very good game defensively.....Carlyle is not in the habit of rewarding poor performances in any game....that line earned their ice time. As far as the goal goes.....Dion was at fault and not because of his stick.....he was sucking exhaust chasing the player behind the net while killing and was late getting net front.....his fault.

Good illiteration! Wilson treated our tough guys like circus performers. Even Burke agreed, Wilson did not want any part of tough hockey, Randy Carlyle does. Which makes Burke his own author of his own demise. Should have canned Wilson long before he did, he might still have a job if he did. Good riddance to both.
