you can tell Carlyles team isnt gonna be the high flying offensive team that Wilsons was. If they buy into this system, minimize opponents scoring chances and capitalize on their PP like they did tonight- this team has a good chance in making the playoffs.
was really impressed by Kostka, Komarov, Scrivens, Komo and of course Naz. Feels good to beat them Habs once again! :handclap::handclap:

Phaneuf played a very efficient game tonight, he and Kostka were the best Toronto D men out there, I saw nothing to complain about.

Leafs win, and people bash Dion Phaneuf on a goal that wasn't his fault.

That goal was just strength in numbers, he can't cover 2 guys.

Watch the video when it is available.....you do not suck exhaust going behind your own net as a D man especially when killing. Rotation is what D man need to do while killing as it is not man to man.

To some on this board, Grabo will never be at fault, he has more excuses than Lance Armstrong has ex yellow jackets. I have grown to accept this fact around here.

Lance Armstrong never won a yellow jacket. If you are going to post stupid things, at least try and be somewhat accurate.

Carlye's all about "structure", take care of your own end first before worrying about taking it to the other team offensively. I think Carlyle's offensive strat is different then Wilsons for sure though, under Carlyle he expects the defencmen to dump it in and then the forwards to hit hard and then once the puck is recovered to play a cycle/crash the net game. Under Wilson it was very much gain speed through the NZ and then just attack off the rush, and also the D were expected to both pinch in, it was very much high risk/high reward either it went great and a scoring chance was created OR a massive turnover and 2on1/3on1 the other way.

Just curious, what impressed you about Scrivens today? Honestly, a kid from the YMCA could have been in goal today and we probably get the win. He did make one or two nice saves but for the most part he just had to be ordinary. The Habs never really generated any real good scoring chances in which he had to come up big.

He made the saves when he had too.

What?

Armstrong won 83 yellow jerseys in his Tour de France career.

If you are talking about the fact that he was stripped, thats different.

Scrivens is nothing special IMO, he was solid tonight though in the sense where he made key saves but nothing noteworthy. However, look at Elliott in SL guy was waived a year before and last season with a stingeworthy defence he was considered "one of the best" in the NHL and even named to the all star game. It just goes to show you what a great defense can do for a goalie, IF as a team we can play as solid tonight as we did in front of our goalie (whoever is in net), it'll go a long way to us making the playoffs.

This.

It was a 60 minute pond hockey match between two bad teams. I'm not understanding the lovefest... wouldn't be surprised in the least if Buffalo completely rails us Monday. Only notables for me were Kadri, Komarov, and Franson.

Seemed every game today looked like a pond hockey match between two bad teams. (Disclaimer: I've only caught fair portions of five of today's games.)

Toronto had a pretty strong 50 relative to the rest of the curve. I think they've got a fair shot against Buffalo -- honestly it'll depend on how both sides shake off the rust.

Given that you think the trades of Aulie and Schenn were Dion's fault, you could be perceived as a touch biased.

We must have been reading 2 different threads or something. I saw a lot of people bashing over Grabo and how poorly he played tonight. On the other hand it was the first game of the season, people just need to get back to playing in the NHL.

I agree to a point, Grabo was playing his 1st game of NHL in close to 10 months so yes the rust will show. However Grabo's habits tonight are the same as they've always been in that he always tries to go 1on3, doesn't use his linemates well at all, and is stupidly putting himself in positions to get rocked, what I am trying to say is his habits tonight cannot be blamed largely on the lockout.

I thought Scrivens looked a bit shaky to be honest. Felt like he didn't really settle in throughout the game and didn't have to face any really tough shots or plays. Regardless, he made the stops when he had to and still got the win.
