Watch Seattle just sign Hyman and all 41 pages of crying will be for nothing lol
If they sign a UFA my bet would be Bogo. Available RW's are a lot stronger than available RHD.Watch Seattle just sign Hyman and all 41 pages of crying will be for nothing lol
Yeah I guess you have to look at lists of teams .. for sure Bean and Foote I would take over Dermy and teams never dress more than 2 kids on back end .. likely they will take cheap vet defenders to fill out a competitive rosterA lot of teams have quality defensemen to offer for cheap, but not many have much better than Kerfoot to offer unless they have ridiculously expensive contracts attached.
The Leafs are a team where it makes sense to pick a forward.
People say sign a cheaper UFA, but if you "read the room" and listen to some comments, it sounds like Canada is rather unappealing and may have trouble attracting UFA's until there is a level Covid playing field.
Leafs are a funny case.
They used to have tons of offensive depth, including elite level prospects that had not yet reached their peak.
Now those elite prospects have peaked. All the depth is gone and replaced with one aging vet at $11M.
So yeah, you need some young blood to fill in the gaps. But it's asking a lot of a prospect pool that to me at least seems average to weak. Some guys have potential (maybe), but the Leafs are out of sure fire can't miss prospects. They're in the realm of fingers crossed hope they turn into something.
When you add that to the fact that Dubas has been firing away 1st round picks with little to no return (1st ++ for Muzzin who has been hurt in multiple playoff runs, 1st wasted on getting rid of Marleau unnecessarily, 1st for Foligno with no return on investment), it means the chances are going to be slim to have cheap contributors come in for the next 3 years or more.
If guys like Robertson or Amirov don't pan out like some optimistic folks in here claim, this team could be very quickly back to square one.
If Matthews leaves as I suspect he will (i believe he is going to California, Vegas or Arizona), and Marner decides he likes the life of anonymity as I suspect he will, then the Leafs will be left with a broken down Tavares and Nylander to build around and everyone will be asking what the heck happened.
And that's just on the skill front, which this team was supposed to be built on. It doesnt address the issues with toughness, their D or goaltending. All of which have major major flaws.
“come play with Matthews and Marner” but yes it is hard to get UFA’s especially American born ufa’s to come to Canada
A betting man might suggest NYI are intentionally trying to dump a $5 mil forward that plays rather soft and then turn around and sign Zach Hyman for their former cap money/space used, who plays the physical high compete game that Islanders thrive under.
Yes, trading the Leafs 8th best prospect who scored 24 points in 52 games in the Swedish league for a guy who just put up 32 points in 43 games in the NHL at the age of 24 is terrible asset management.
I swear people don't (or can't) think before they post stuff like this. You aren't convincing anyone because we all have the ability to think and ignore BS.
I wonder if this side deal with Seattle has the Kraken taking Engvall or dermott and then the leafs trade Kerfoot to Seattle for a draft pick or something. Would give the new coach two guys he’s familiar with to slot in the line up.
i wonder if this is the side deal as I remember reading that Seattle would be on the hook for the bonus money owed to whoever they select.
side deals like this make me wary tho as I can’t think of a situation with Vegas where the Knights didn’t come out like bandits.
I’ve always been of the attitude that I don’t really care if you go 7-3-1 or 4-4-1 but it’s always best to just make a list and take your lumps.
And you KNOW if the Leafs didn't have a great defense the same suspects would be complaining that "stupid Dubas STILL hasn't fixed the defense!"...Defense finally in good shape after more than a decade
"Hey guyths, why didn't dumbdumb completely ignore our defense to focus on depth our forwards"
Come get an early Tee Time with Matthews and Marner“come play with Matthews and Marner”
And you KNOW if the Leafs didn't have a great defense the same suspects would be complaining that "stupid Dubas STILL hasn't fixed the defense!"...
Someone wanna explain me about Holl ( i neither for him or against him, genuinely curious)
Kraken fans are under the impression the leafs have a deal with them to take Kerfoot
Habs have some really good pieces, but imo without Price being vintage Price they'd of gone nowhere in this years playoffs. Price is a expensive asset in decline, but he's still the main reason they had success. That may help division rival Montreal in the long run. Montreal has sneakily built a really solid foundation of players. Now, would I rather go to war in the playoffs with Carey Price instead of Jake Allen? I would. But do I think Montreal can make themselves even more dangerous with an extra $10M to spend? I do.
I'm not buying the Weber/Price injury narratives, that's a smoke screen imo.Yeah plus they will have Weber LTIR money to spend. Landeskog would look good for them.
I mean...a couple of those are pretty god damn arguable lol. If we made Holl available they were taking Holl. I get it some of you hate him...but they would be taking him.
It just needed an experienced GM to take the next step.
That was also the peak of this current run. Dubas took the controls and ran the thing into the ground. Meanwhile Lou constructed a new team and got them within a game of the Finals. He's also back to back GMOTY. Happy to continue this comparison of the two GMs.
more like, go get the puck from the tough areas and give it to those who are above getting said puck themselves.“come play with Matthews and Marner”
Yep, at a total cost of Hallander and a 7th.You forgot the “then leaving him exposed to Seattle” part
Potential Seattle Lineup being speculated already in mocks:
Domi-Drouin-Tarasenko
van Reimsdyk-Gourde-Ritchie
Johnsson-Kerfoot-Donato
Jamkrok-Tierney-Aston-Reese
Demelo-Giordano
Stecher-Zadorov
Bean-Soucy
Holtby
Driedger
Not too shabby.
Did Dubas consider trading Holl for a younger forward worth protecting and go 7-3-1 ?
