Is there any angle where that would make sense? To not lose Kerfoot..? Give me McCann over Kerfoot ever day, twice today. His offensive ceiling and younger age are way more valuable than a small guy with no shot and max 40 pt tweener

I think this is a clear indication there must be an agreement in place.

There doesn't seem to be any sense to protecting Holl at the cost of exposing both Kerfoot and McCann.

Outcome 1: kraken take anyone but Mccann - awesome, we took advantage of the situation to get Mccann cheap (hallander+ 7th)

Outcome 2: we make side deal, they take anyone but Mccann- likely still awesome, but depends on the side deal, acquidition cost on Mccann now includes whatever we gave up

Outcome 3: they take MCcann- our side deal was Hallander + 7th to come through expansion unscathed
I prefer for them to be scathed - team needs change, bringing back all 3 of Kerfoot, Holl, Dermott is running back mediocrity with decent NHLers who aren't and likely never will be difference-makers. Bogo is way more of an impact player than Holl or Dermott, he's actually a bit tough to play against

Seattle is going to have an amazing team.

Lots of quality players to choose from on top of the UFAs that are out there. They could win the division.

They're going to have more high end talent than Vegas did. Voracek and Tarasenko are first line forwards. Will likely also grab either Johansen or Duchene. They'll be a good team.

I found it interesting that Vegas is excluded from the ED. So in a nutshell every other team loses a player and is slightly weakened. Keep doing what you do Gary.

wohhh... I didn't know that. What the hell? What was the justification that was given to allow this?

They won’t take all of those guys, they still have to manage a salary cap. I think they will take two of those guys but not all 3. I don’t think they touch tarasenko

One thing giving me some comfort is a lot of people still seem to think Seattle will take Kerfoot. Might be an understanding between the teams, or Hakstol wanting a familiar face.

Gonna be an agonizing wait to find out tho
Hope so - that would be a valuable 2.8m net to have in the bank (700k diff between McCann and Hyman), to go with Andersen's 5m - that would enable some flexibility to properly fill in the LW1 hole and let McCann own the 3c spot

Vegas only has been in the NHL for 4 years so having them participate in the expansion draft was looked at as unfair

Though they don't get a share of the 650M expansion fee paid by Seattle that all the other organizations get

So much going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

Will wait and see what happens before I get all wound up about anything.

........ besides, still pissed that we lost, and still not finding much give a crap about this team for next year, especially when it looks like it's going to be the same bunch of no-shows.

If they only play for the season and never show up for the playoffs, not sure how to care about them for 82 games only to be frustrated, pissed off, and heartbroken to see they don't show up when it matters...... I'm still very bitter.

Brilliant piece of work to make sure we have either Kerfoot or McCann I would say.
Don't see this roster constructed with them both on the team.

QUESTION
Do we have enough forwards to go 7-3-1 in the expansion draft?
Need to leave 2 exposed correct??

  1. Matthews
  2. Tavares
  3. Nylander
  4. Marner
  5. Kerfoot
  6. Simmonds
  7. McCann/Spezza
Expose Mikheyev

Defense:
  1. Rielly
  2. Brodie
  3. Muzzin

Risk losing dermott though

how is holl being protected?

  1. Rielly
  2. Brodie
  3. Muzzin
  4. Dermott
If Leafs go 4-4; unless you guys think that dermott is being exposed and not holl

Reasonable inferences from this:

the leafs value Holl highly, and didnt want to lose him

Hakstol values Holl highly, and if he was exposed he'd be the pick, and the price to not pick Holl would be much highervthan the price to not pick Mccann

They just gave the league $500 mil or more to have a team 4 years ago, so it was planned from the start there would be another expansion team added soon but staggard with them in the near future. So they have been exempt since entering the league.

Its their remarkable team building and success that has people asking why are then exempt, because when you compare their playoff record 8 series wins in 4 years starting from scratch to our Leafs it doesn't seem fair.

If I'm drafting for Seattle I'm taking McCann as Kerfoot has even been able to score double digit goals since arriving in Toronto.

McCann then be flipped for picks to another team too at a lower cap hit. Seattle would be smart too do that given dead cap
