With the leaks about Kerfoot and Seattle, seems like this is all pointing towards that.

I still don't understand the amount of hate Justin Holl gets. People want size, people want defensive defenseman and they want affordable players... Holl is that. No he's not amazing, but he's not paid like he's amazing either. People act like he's being paid 6M+ here, even if he's not super great top 4 quality, he's at the very least a capable defenseman to play those minutes.

There will obviously be surprises among the forwards not on the protected list. The same might hold true for a blueliner. Think Kerfoot will be the one ultimately ending up with Seattle.

Maybe because he's not good?

That probably has something to do with it.

They're about to lose a better player just so they could protect Holl lol.

Sounds stupid. We must be the only team that trades for a player so we can expose him.

Brilliant piece of work to make sure we have either Kerfoot or McCann I would say.
Don't see this roster constructed with them both on the team.

QUESTION
Do we have enough forwards to go 7-3-1 in the expansion draft?
Need to leave 2 exposed correct??

Who do you think is easier to replace, Kerfoot/McCann or Holl?

None of those players are easy to replace. I think trying to replace your 2M defenseman that is signed for a couple more years who has shown plenty of good moments and plays a pretty good defensive role is fine to value highly. You're going to have a tough time trying to find a skating right handed 2M 6'5" defenseman on a 2 year deal.

Anyone recall any side deals that didn't favor Vegas at the last expansion draft?

I would easily have let him go to try to sign a savard. Larson. Oleksiak. Etc for 3.5-4 million.

After about 15 games into last season its pretty clear Holl is not a top-4 D.
Honestly I view him as a fringe top 4 guy, but I think you're paying a premium to replace that role and the team clearly has a lot more confidence than I do in him with his usage.

At the end of the day, he's typically playing 20+ safe minutes and doesn't need to be sheltered. Only thing he can't do is play on the PP

I disagree. I dont think it would be very hard to find a dman to give you what Holl gives you at all.

At the end of the day, the Leafs are willing to lose a middle six forward for a bottom pair dman. That just doesnt make sense.

I think the difference here is that Holl isn't seen as a bottom pairing defenseman and he didn't play bottom pairing minutes. I'm not sure you're going to get better than Holl at 2M for his quality and I think you're being incredibly generous if you think so.

I like Kerfoot and he's a good player but... I think he's a lot easier to replace at 3.5M. Some one that can pot ~30 points and play a secondary role.
