It makes sense if you’re fine with keeping a 3rd liner Center who paced for 11 goals/30 points last year who makes 3.5 mil.

Again, I just don’t understand any of this.

Kerfoot played well in the playoffs and is at least a proven NHLer who could play 2nd/3rd line minutes...he won't be easy to replace after the expansion draft if we lose him, and hadn't picked up McCann...we don't have $11 million to sign another Marner who doesn't show up in the playoffs...:sarcasm:

Honestly was kind of hoping we'd lose Holl so Liljegren could start getting some NHL games.

If there isn't a side deal where we keep both Kerfoot and McCann, or Holl has some kind of crazy trade value going into the draft, then that is terrible asset management.

The mental gymnastics needed to try to make Dubas look bad is really making some look next level braindead. Much smarter just to say you have an irrational. illogical hate for him and move on - preferably in one of the 5000 Dubas sucks threads, not here.

Leafs are in excellent shape no matter who they lose, as there is already a built in replacement for any player they lose.
Cause it's a lot easier for people to drop in here and proclaim their hate for Dubas and the team in general without thinking critically about the topic they are arguing or to actually research the situation for a brief moment.

Dubas' days are numbered, the Leafs needs to win at least one playoff round next season...he cannot afford to do experiments, and is going for the sure thing in Holl...plus, having depth on d is a good thing.

Ideally we loose Dermott. But by the sounds of it, it’s looking like we loose Kerfoot to some kind of agreement over McCann. Big hole to fill on that third line now.

This cyclical argument is just cancer. Clearly dubas has made some pretty stupid mistakes but by reading your post you would think that you keep a locket of his hair under your pillow or something. I think some posters get a little irritated with other posters like you who try and make it sound like everything is just peachy and everything is fine here and there's nothing worth mentioning that's a negative. You're not living in reality.

Difference being right now, we need both Robertson and McCann in the lineup.

McCann is better than anyone we could've signed in the 3M range.

I can think of FA d-men we could sign around 2 that would be similar to what Holl brings.

not true and dont forget to add the 2 assets lost in acquiring mccann

And I think plenty of people get frustrated by those that think there is absolutely nothing positive worth mentioning about Dubas or this team.

The whole “it’s like we only lost Hallander” thing is such a “in a vacuum” explanation.

We acquired Jared McCann. He’s a member of our roster. He’s easily our fifth best forward. He’s easily more valuable than Justin Holl, who we protected.

If Seattle takes Jared McCann, then we’ve had a brutal mismanagement of the expansion draft, and lost a member of our roster greater than what we needed to be.

I think Kyle Dubas has more positives than negatives as General Manager. I think odds are whoever we hire next, will likely do a worse job.

However, this is a brutal brutal miscalculation

Dubas knew he was going to expose him as he was trading for him.

Again you do realize Seattle was going to have him available from Pittsburgh. Aslong as you realize that you are crying about us losing....nothing in the expansion draft. Then carry on I guess lol.
Maybe people feel like this was a chance to get a player for cheap that improves the team?
Whatever the Pens were planning is moot, Benning made a deal for a player that made the team better, was going to be exposed, got him for cheap and protected him. Dubas did the same but then exposes him to protectt a player that isn't all that good and probably won't get picked.

The thing is that Holl isn't that good. He isn't terrible but he's a 30 year old passable 4 with a good partner.

Liljegren is 8 years younger and trending the same way as Shea Theodore and Jake Bean. You have to let him play in the NHL eventually or what's the point in developing players?

He was great at 5 on 5 in his one chance with Muzzin and I think we need to give that pair a chance to work. You can always bring in depth guys who can play 14-16 minutes and PK, but we need to see what he has this year.

It's funny how the same people that say playoffs are everything and made fun of McCann 3pts in 12 playoffs game are also saying that Kerfoot stinks despite his good playoffs performance.

Funny........ sad, pathetic....all the same, and sadly not at all surprising.

I found it interesting that Vegas is excluded from the ED. So in a nutshell every other team loses a player and is slightly weakened. Keep doing what you do Gary.
That's a bad take. You think the NHLPA wants a player relocated twice in back-to-back years without their say?

Going through all of Kraken options, and its optimal for them to take Dermott.

Good contract and young Dman.

They have much better forward options elsewhere than Kerfoot or Mccan

If you think he's going to repeat that level of playoff production then keep spending assets to keep him around.

It could be zero or one player max. No big deal. As many have said it is because Vegas did not get a cut of the expansion fee. If Francis plays his cards right, we could see a Vegas/Seattle SC final. Now wouldn't that make Gary happy.

This isn't about Kerfoot vs McCann. It's about Holl.

RDs available to Seattle that are better than Holl: Shattenkirk, Erik Johnson, Stecher, Nutivaara, Braun, Foote (potential)

That's not considering LDs. If I were to list defencemen without minding handedness, there would be about 12-14 guys ahead of Holl.
