Hainsey was actually a surprisingly steady defensive presence. I'm not even a Babcock guy but it was impressive how much he got out of Hainsey.
With your account registered after the 2018 season, I'm not even convinced you followed the team in that year because you seem to know nothing about the players from that team.
I only registered here a year later than you, so it's weird you're trying to play that game. You don't need to have an account on this silly site to follow the Leafs.
Also, Hainsey was still here and Rielly's big season came in 2018-2019, which is after I joined, so not even sure what you're talking about.
I've been following the Leafs for longer than you, and I seem to know way more about what happened than you do.
Hainsey was steady defensively at times throughout his career, but with us in his late 30s, he struggled.
You may misremember because it was years ago, and our team overall was bad defensively so he didn't really stick out as much, but it doesn't change the facts.
Babcock played him too high in the lineup, on a pairing that didn't work very well.
Hainsey also didn't magically make Rielly's shooting percentage double (but only in one of the two years he was with him, for... reasons), but that should be obvious.
