What did Keefe actually say? Seems like a nothing burger.

Did Jim Schoenfeld receive a $25K fine for telling Koharski to have another donut?

Just another idiotic Bettman move which only serves to p*ss off us guys who fund da team .. means nothing to owners as it is not even a rounding error

Bettman doesn't want to dig into his own pocket to keep the toilets running in Arizona. The money has to come from somewhere.

More favorable treatment for the Leafs by the league eh Mr. Sutter?

The Irony has so many layers here.

Blow a gasket on the bench in the heat of the play after an obvious blown call (like so many other coaches have done this season) and get singled out.

Imply after a game that the entire NHL officiating system is corrupt in favor of a a certain team and......crickets.....

...Also notice anyone agreeing with the league here in the thread. It's the usual "fans".

I'm also disappointed in Sutter for not weighing in on this topic, but at least the idiots on the main board will be entertained for the next few days.

Yes but it should not be da Leafs season ticket holders and sponsors who pay for da toilets in Zona either .. this is just another Bettman $$$ grab so $$$ can be moved to Zona outside of da CBA splits to all teams

Totally agree with you. Of course it's a cash grab. You think the Leafs are the only team to break such a "rule"? This happens more than we know. Bettman wouldn't give two shits if a money pit like FLA or ARI decide to fly out early.

Keefe got fined 25k for freaking out on the bench? I swear I've seen coaches also blow gaskets out there and I never heard about them getting fined. or maybe I just dont hear about it because I dont follow their teams.... did Sutter get fined for calling out the NHL for giving Toronto favorable calls?

I'd love to see this. I'd be willing to bet the league's poorer teams would cry about their diminished cut.

the leafs have crazy ticket prices but I think they're one of the teams that gets more from tv / corporate / merch and so aren't as reliant on ticket sales. again, despite ticket prices being so high.

i think in the long term there is a business case for lowering ticket prices. get a more raucous crowd into the building, which will also show better on tv.

make it easier for people with a casual interest to see the game live and make them more serious fans. make it easier for newcomers and the like to check it out. families with young children. and the reputational benefits of pure fan service; let the many serious lower and middle income fans who can't afford tickets into the building.

grow the fan base. yea leafs have a lot of fans but in the GTA there are plenty of people who don't watch hockey at all or cheer for other teams instead.

Keefe lost his temper about both incidents. The TSN recap showed his reaction to both, and the high sticking one was actually quite humerous as he used hand gestures to re-enact it.

I've been a pretty big critic of Keefe but I completely disagree. The NHL has possibly the worst refs in the big 4 NA sports. Sometimes the players need to see their coach will go to battle for them and call the league out. IMO one of Keefe's biggest flaws has been his lack of passion, about time he showed some.

With the state of media today kids see much worse. It's a physical sport played by grown men who sometimes get into physical fights. A coach having a tantrum is not the big deal you're making it out to be.

from the american perspective, isn't the coach yelling at the umpire or referee and getting booted out a staple of baseball?

You don't fund the team. You simply buy products from them. Do you consider yourself to be funding Amazon or Walmart or Loblaws when you buy something from them.

This "funding the team" nonsense just reaks of annoying people who tell public servants "I pay your salary."

Without da 8-9K seat sponsors or da 200+/- corporate sponsors there are NO Leafs for you to watch on TV .. you seems to think this is a massive group funding da team .. it is a pretty small group of us

Unless you’re suggesting stripping Subscribers of their tickets, the same crowd would be in the building it just wouldn’t cost as much.

So, what's your pitch to Bell, Rogers, and Tannenbaum that they should make less money? Do you think there4 will be enough made in increased ad prices on TSN and Sportsnet. Of course, even if the money from increased ad prices did equal losses in arena ticket sales, that would benefit Sportsnet (with 56 national and regional games) more than TSN (26 regional games) and nothing for Tannenbaum at all. Profits from arena ticket sales would be split 37.5%/37.5%/25% among Rogers, Bell, and Tannenbaum.

There's also no guarantee that a more raucous SBA crowd would result in higher TV ratings.

I suppose so. It always seemed really silly to me. But then I have much more respect for calm rational people than irrational hotheads.

l wonder how much of a fine Ftorek received when he threw a bench on to the ice.

So it begs the question, "why did the leaugue decide to fine him of all outbursts?"

They miss a penalty that could have cost a player a physical dismemberment but a coach being angry about the missed call is their priority? The league is acting like a King and MLSE are the jesters who must dance for them pleasure.

"Don't get too uppity there coach we don't want lifetime observers of the sport to raise lingering questions this playoff season as they did last (and in the Boston series to a much lesser degree)".

This Leaf team is more balanced, doing very well with potential adds, yet, there seems to be less interest in them. If some miracle occured (and it has in the past in T.O believe it or not) and there was less corporate revenue and interest in the Leafs, maybe even a lost generation; other teams in the league would lose serious revenue as well.

It woud be a fitting outcome for the king...
