The fine option exists in the bylaws because it is not accepted behavior, but it might be for abuse of an official more than trying to make the game more family friendly.

However I think they were related and in fact because of the overreaction and fineable offense of the first event the Refs may intentionally to spite Leafs and Keefe as payback not called the obvious High sticking play to the mouth of ZAR as he was bleeding to even the score.

The Refs after getting berated on the first decided to pretend the 2nd call was a follow through after discussing it. But 2 wrongs don't make a right.,

The outrage could have costed the Leafs the game in that respect.

Its likely good that it happened in this game and not the Philly afternoon game where it was take your kid to the game day on family day.

So instead of assessing a bench minor/ejection to punish him appropriately, they instead choose to collude to ignore a dangerous play on purpose which would cost them their jobs if discovered. You know they have microphones on them right?

And Keefe fined $25,000 for being "demeaning to the refs". Best $25k spent (though Keefe might not think so).

The NHL owes MLSE millions for the refs stealing a series for T.B last year and Bettman owes the fans an apology for such egregious reffing for a starving fanbase that simply wants fairness come playoffs.

If I had the resources, I'd produce a documentary analyzing that series and the calls made and dives allowed.

Makes me think we should fire up a go-fund-me page to cover his costs - imagine how awesome that would be if the FANS paid his fine for him.

There wouldn't be a now 8 page thread on the main board if say, Arizona had flown early. Then again, Arizona can't afford the fine.

We must protect the kids from vulgarities and "rage" when the ref shows incompetence, but yet we encourage physical violence and actually cheer it on? Family sport? What?

Players and coaches would be bankrupt if they fined them every time they swore or got angry.

I would love to hear the professionalism and etiquette Pat Quinn and Pat Burns showed while here. Oh right...

McAuley would've left the arena in tears during the Burns era. What Keefe did was nothing.

They may not be able to afford the little berries that go on the tiny umbrellas for their morning power smoothies now

If you can't beat them with the help of the refs you can always try to beat them with the travel schedule. Next call from the league will be to all neighbourhood bars, restaurants and grocery stores to not serve any Leaf players. Starve them into a loss!

American society in a nutshell. We can air sports where guys pound the piss out of each other but the moment there is a swear word or boobie shown on TV it's all "oh please think of the children"

A family sport? What the hell happened to Mess over the years? This is Intrepid/TWS level ridiculousness.

This.

I guess it was also a family sport during the 70's, with Bobby Clarke routinely aiming to kill people and Milbury jumping into the crowd to beat a fan with his own shoe.

Would be nice if the wealthier players on the team all chipped in and cover the cost of the fine, finally their coach says or does something fine-worthy instead of being so PC all the time.

Even if only just the captain to show the team backs their coach. That's equivalent to like a $250 fine for someone making $110,000 a year

Bare knuckle face punching, wrestling, scrums, players chirping, dangerous high-impact collisions: MORE, MORE, MORE or we're soft!
Coach yells at incompetent ref from the bench about their repeated missed calls: Well I never! The vulgarity and rage! This is a family sport for all! Not acceptable! They need to be role models of professionalism and etiquette? WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?

:laugh::eyeroll::facepalm:

I would guess the fine coincides with Sheldon's $25K end of the year bonus from ownership.

The team is going to pay in anyways

Those who are up in arms because Keefe gave McAuley a piece of his mind and used a bit of vulgarity towards an incompetent official, you must've been traumatized during the John Brophy / Pat Burns days.
