The Knies fight made me breathe a sigh of relief because after watching him at the end of the season last year when he was called up...I didn't see that physicality or feistiness in him as initially advertised

I thought he was gonna be another one of those vanilla players with skill and body strength when it's all said and done (which woudl've been fine by me. He's skilled as hell)

But this season, he's been showing that physical side a lot more, and getting into his first fight tells me a lot

I was thinking (hoping?) coming into this game, that the MTL game would mean so much to Sid since he grew up a Habs fan. His teammates would know this... So, with that being an emotional game for them, this was more or less a nothing game other than the Dubas thing. I dunno how often teams 'play' for their GM? More than likely I am making something up, but it was a thought at least.

I felt the Leafs had sooo much flow to their game tonight. Slicing through the neutral zone without a lot of resistance. Pens looked horrible to me.

Here we are again, and guys like Lagesson and Benoit are making plays.

Was amazing to see Timmy back. He looked good!

McCabe is underrated as a puck mover; he can snap some fine first passes.

Great for Max to have a game like that, he was flying from puck drop!

That first goal from Knies was dandy! Young LW, with size, and skill, and physicality?! Yes please. Amazing fit.

Nice for McMann to pot his first. Don't know what to make of him.

Didn't miss Brodie, but he hasn't been playing well. We need the good Brodie... if he is still there.

Jones looked calm and collected. Mind you, he didn't face too many HDCA, but that isn't his fault.

Rags next? Expecting a better game from them on Tuesday... But that one was exhilaratingly enjoyable.

Stats person was generous Giving them 5 HDCA in the 2nd. Really skewed what the eye test said instead. Pens had nothing going. 2 in the 1st and 0 in the 3rd is more indicating of how the game went.

I honestly think it's time Keefe starts to look at playing Gio and Brodie a lot less. With Reilly and McCabe playing like experienced vets (as one would expect), the leadership intangibles that Gio and Brodie bring are now being outweighed by how much old age has caught up with them. Players like Lagersson and Benoit have earned their stripes and are really looking like they can be relied upon for a larger share of the minutes than were expected when the injuries started piling up. I'm not saying to staple them to the pressbox; I think at least look at only playing one of them each night.

Not sure why you'd think that. Fights are fine. Some people just massively overrate them and the impacts they have.
i just like the for the entertainment value, but I can see why the league has been trying to phase them out...I'll have to make do with boxing and mma in future I guess

Agree. That was what I felt like I was watching too. Jones did make a couple good saves, but not sure they were all high-danger. Regardless, the result was a good representation of a great Leafs defensive effort coupled with a lame Pittsburgh showing from the net on out.

Leafs need to hold on to this guy. He will be a top forward in this league for many, many, many years, this guy's a stud.

He has a lot of jam and a sneaky mean streak. He's exactly what I wish they'd had for the last 5 years. He's the perfect replacement for Kadri.

Have to say Knies showed something tonight the core 4 as yet to show. Heart. Seeing Matthews not even snap his gloves against Stamkos or Marner laughing at Tkachuk hitting him in the face. We need more great from our top guys and Knies proved tonight he can provide that

I wanted a win obviously but I wasn't expecting THAT especially with Matthews out with the flu.

Domi with 3 points, Bertuzzi with 3 points, Marner with 2, Knies with 2 points AND a fight.

Tavares Mcmann and Nylander all with one.

And Jones with 38 or 39 saves for the shutout.

And despite having nearly 40 shots, much like Samsonov against Nashville I can't think of any truly BIG saves Jones had to make.

Pure domination.

And it could have been more Reilly hit 2 crossbars.
