My observations from last night is we outplayed St Louis without question.
Top line caved them in all night.
Outshot and out chanced badly.

We got beat by two long slap shots and a highly improbable goal off McCabe’s skate and a PP which is inept.

Now I didn't see the game and I've only watched three or four this year. These are playoff style games though, similar to the one played against the Rangers. Notice the trend?

Perhaps Berube will be able to mold his best players into playoff Gamers. It will be a long process in order to do so. Though after 8 years of futility, one would have to be really optimistic to believe it is possible. He has to try and he and the organization have to be more outspoken about the need to play NHL hockey the right way.

Since the Leafs value increased so much in the last year or two, don't expect them to care about winning the Cup with the right men in the lineup. In the end, they will not win with this core intact. I've not wavered from that position since they lost to the Habs. I don't care if it is 8, 9 or 18 years going forward.

Yes, I’m sure the Leafs losing is “kinda like” getting stabbed to death.

What a f***ed up post.

Is that what I said?

Because I'm pretty sure that's not what I said. What I actually did was use a traumatic event to provide an example of how I feel sometimes watching this team. Maybe to you it seems hyperbolic but who are you to tell me how I should feel.

Furthermore there are lots of other fans who feel the same way but especially in April.

I feel like you missed the second period. And the inept PP is a big part of why our record is so mediocre, you can't just shrug it off as if it's not a part of the equation.

Too many giveaways? Stats list 1
Since he has the puck so much that’s not bad
Who played better?
He was aggressive as well hen he didn’t have the puck. I saw a few checks, not bone crushing but effective body contact.
Matthews had a big hit, turned over the puck and set up Knies for a great scoring chance.

In the first period, but the second StL was the better team.
The PPs were the difference.

Overall it was a good effort.

Gotta have a very good special teams to succeed in the NHL.
I thought we played well….and good enough to win.

I blame it all on McCabe. They agreed to fight and McCabe got knocked down pretty quick.
It set the tone 🤣
I always laugh seeing these players fight with all that armour and Schenn helmet and shield was still on.

Reaves in the lineup with another loss.

Stars have to score but we need more from the bottom six too.

Our PP had been one of the worse

Craig Berube on what's wrong with the power play that is 8.8 percent through 11 games.

"For me it's execution, to be honest with you. But the other thing is there's not a directness to it. We're not getting pucks to the net enough. We're on the power play. We need to shoot pucks more. We need to get pucks to the net and create opportunities around the net on broken plays. But we're not. There's not a shot mentality on the power play right now."

Berube answer is getting goals on broken plays? 🤣🤣🤣

Most of the great PP teams don’t look for broken plays they execute to create space and get off quality shots in high danger areas.

Berube offence is shooting wildly and crashing the net 🤣

Mathew’s is probably thinking ….Really?

Typical Woll. He allows a lot of long range goals. St Louis had the book on him. Not good enough. Stolarz is our number 1….period.

The PP, my goodness can they be any more lost. I know with that much skill we should be scoring but this is also a coaching problem.
Stolarz had a few good games and he's the clear number 1... until he has a few bad games. This is typical of this fan base. I don't care who's in net, those goals are more often than not going in

Atlantic Canada
I know people like to say this after every loss, but making the playoffs will not be harder this season. If anything, it will be easier because of the downgrades in the Atlantic teams. The Leafs could sleepwalk their way to top 3 in this division. That is no great accomplishment.

My guy Toronto is up 1pt on Ottawa but Ottawa has a game in hand! We are playing Minnesota today, arguably the 2nd best team in the league while playing back to back

I know its early but in the next few days
IF
Toronto Losses today (Nov 3rd)
AND ANY 2 OF THE TEAMS BELOW WIN THEIR NEXT GAME
Ottawa, Columbus, Detroit, Boston

Toronto will not be in a playoff spot (technically Toronto and Boston will have the same record but since Boston beat us they would be higher)

The Leafs played very well in the 1st and 3rd period, but poorly in the 2nd. Overall they played better than the Blues, but the bad 2nd period was the reason for the loss.

Call me in 20 games and let's see what the standings look like. Can't live and die by one game.

We’ll have a better idea after the next 10 games if battling for 1st or 2nd in the Atlantic will be an accomplishment or if just making the playoffs will be an accomplishment.

I believe there is a stench on this team. Tanev, OEL and Lorentz have been the hardest working players and they all came from other teams.

One poster wrote something that Berube wants broken plays on the PP and Mathews is saying “really?” When the game gets tight you throw pucks at the net, Lorentz goal was a rebound off another shot. That’s hockey. Binnington was giving up all kinds of rebounds last night and no one was crashing the net. Mathews floats through all the power plays, looks pissed because he’s not getting his gift one timers. Problem is this team can’t win in the playoffs cause they can’t play playoff hockey and Berube is trying to get them to play that way. Until they figure it out, they won’t win.

Tanev, OEL, Lorentz and Marriner and Nylander are not the problem here. Tavares gives everything he has.

There’s a stench on this team. Until they figure it out this is no TEAM.

Yeah one of them is Marner forcing plays that are essentially risky and for the purpose of getting his point totals up is a big one.

Far to few people noticing this.

Looked to me like Leafs were da better team on da night and deserved a better result .. but it should be real clear to all we lack a point presence on da PP .. and we lack purpose in our net front presence on PP too .. our PP is da PROBLEM .. we are lacking a bomb from da point and we are lacking a beast to screen bombs and create opportunities for Willy and Matty by forcing 2 opponent defenders into crease to move a beast .. we don't create open ice closer to bet on PP .. our personnel are wrong .. our system on PP is wrong .. guy running it should be fired asap .. neither OEL or Rielly are right .. and JT is not right .. maybe Knies can do it net front but he is still a kid learning da ropes .. lots of lip service from Berube but this PP is costing team PTS in standings on many nights when we are best team on da ice

But he scored a goal on a broken play and almost scored to tie the game. Problem is he’s trying to put beauty saucers out there to Mathews. The stench is Mathews.

He is right. The way they have done it doesn’t work come playoff time, and it’s not working now. You need to get pucks to the net, the haven’t done that. Getting rebounds in the net might not be pretty, but it is a game they need to be able to play for playoff success.

Some truth to this.

Our top 3 focus too much on individual results. We are trying force feed Nylander a hatty with trendy out, instead of just putting the team away.

Nylander and Marner already complaining about ice time.

Matthews still not being as physical as his frame would allow.

Still playing players who have no business on our team in Robertson and Reaves.

Our back up to Stolarz have been inconsistent.

What you get is a close to .500 record.

There is some progress on team concepts, zone exits, playing with a lead, forechecking etc etc. The growth is slow and it frustrates our base. Biggest problem with a large chunk our fans is they don’t really know hockey and are the loudest most obnoxious group just yelling about nothing.

He still does it but his game is cleaner this year. You can’t expect him to eliminate this completely from his game as he is a creative playmaker that often creates offense for this team.

Went to the Blues board to find info on Broberg injury for Fantasy hockey reasons and came across this. 😂
Unhinged fans hate us because they beat our team and they wanted to lose to us?! Leafs really can't win no matter what we do. Sad really. But funny to see.

Frustrating watching the PP repeatedly play the perimeter.

It's like they have one player who parks in front of the net and the other 4 stay as far away as possible so as not to crease their jersey. And it's been this way for years.

I'm not a coach at any level, never have been, but it takes all of about 30 seconds watching them operate with the man advantage to see that if they don't physically take the puck to the high danger areas they aren't going to score.

Just watch any team that's effective on the PP and see what they do - Hint: That's what they do.

Bottom six still not that strong. The core four needs to spread over three lines. Simple. You're welcome.
Domi was meh for the first half of the season last year playing on the 3rd line. Once he moved up with 34 and had a larger role, he was lights out. Thats where I would start.

My observations from last night is we outplayed St Louis without question.
Top line caved them in all night.
Outshot and out chanced badly.

We got beat by two long slap shots and a highly improbable goal off McCabe’s skate and a PP which is inept.
I thought we looked very good the first period, blown away in the second and very meh for the first 10 min of the 3rd before ramping it up and trying to catch up.....sounds familiar?
