Leafs should be past the stage of taking on cap dumps and awful contracts.

They need to look to trade for a proven asset in an ROR esque deal.

I dont know about that yet , Leafs have cap space and most of young talent is on ELC so if we take on a 2 year dump won't hurt

So waiver wire and 3rd for cap dump for one year and blue ship prospect? Ducks will decline.

Montour isn't a blue chip prospect. Werenski, Provorov,Dubois, Strome and Puljujarvi etc are blue chip prospects.

Don't want to take on Stones contract. Leafs decline

Montour is also very under rated... but hey Anaheim woulda declined anyway

I know he isn't a Toronto prospect but maybe try google his stats and realize he's at one of the more needed position needed In the league, right handed offensive dmen

Scored 57 points in his first pro season at 21. He would easily fit Leafs top 4 right now.

He put up basically the same type of numbers in every league he has played in

We already have Connor Carrick in our top 4 though. Montour has excellent potential but I do not think he would walk onto the team and beat out Carrick for the top4 spot.

If youre going on stats alone, Carrick put up 18 points in 15 AHL playoff games last year, and has excellent AHL numbers during his two regular seasons with the Bears. Hes the same size and age, and shoots the same way as Montour. While Montour was shredding the AHL in a very impressive way last year, Carrick scored 4 points for the Leafs in 16 NHL games. I recognize that Montour is very talented and the Ducks are lucky to have him, but I don't think he's a given to be better than Carrick.

Well enough, but if Carrick was so good why Capitals traded him? He was only a part of cap dump deal.

I wouldn't even hesitate to do a deal like this. At all. Clears space, gets us a young forward, and a decent draft pick (which we desperately need immediately to start replenishing our forward prospects).

Leafs would also need to send a d-man back in this trade as the pro-team is overstocked with them. Perhaps we send back Corrado in this deal? Young guy who could provide some added value in this deal (not a ton, but cheap contract for the bottom pairing/7th d-man who can move the puck).

Leivo/Corrado/3rd round pick

Stoner/Montour

Well we'd also have to bury one of Stoner, Hunwick, or Polak. Then also depending on if Montour makes the team maybe another one of them or Corrado. So like ya, i woukdnt hesitate putting Corrado in a trade

He's not trading for Montour.

He's trading for Montour + Stoner
Stoner's value isn't negative enough to warrant trading a premier defensive prospect just to lose him.

He's actually a fine, dare I say good 3rd pairing guy unlike Bieksa. He's overpaid by about 2m, but he's still going to do a good job.

There's teams far away from the cap that will take him for less than Brandon Montour, that much is certain.

Seems like an exaggeration... they have Nattinen, Max Jones, Sam Steel, Nick Ritchie, Rickard Rakell. Solid group of young guys for a team that will be led by their core for another 4 years at least. A 3rd also isn't going to do much damage.

Montour has elite offensive upside for the NHL level. It would be garbage to trade him for this package and Bob Murray won't be doing it I can assure you.

I don't really see Montour developing into a better player than Zaitsev or Carrick so it's kind of a pointless deal for Toronto.

JVR (50% retained) and a second for Stoner and Theodore
