It's almost as if everyone sees it except the team.
M&M will have one or two good games together and in the eyes of the management that warrants putting them on a line all the time.
yes because you have to agree with every decision someone makes if you like them...Or, it is almost like the fans we have suck at evaluating hockey.
This board was praising Treliving and Berube all summer, seems weird to start hating their decisions when they are such great hockey minds.

1)With all the praise these two got, seems odd they'd both get it wrong.
Anyway, our fanbase is fairly uneducated on these boards anyway, they can't see anything other than points, which makes it really surprising they have an issue with Marner/Matthews.
1)
The first thing I see is our 8 consecutive seasons of sub .500 hockey in the playoffs. Since M&M have almost always been together in the playoffs, splitting them up seems logical.
2)
If all I saw was points, I would say that the regular season is just fine, but playoffs are a huge issue as the PPG of M&M goes way down, especially Marner.
It's never just one thing, but their production plummeting in the playoffs is obviously a pretty big issue. Is that what is holding us back?
It sucks we didn't win last year when they were split up (arguably our worst series), we also lost in 2019, 2018, and 2017.
It looks like they've played apart as much as together.
But, if we split them up, that'll help us win, it is only logical based on history (it's not).
Times they got out of the first round:
0/4 apart
1/4 together
The narratives that are pushed are never backed by logic.
That is a huge argument by a lot on these boards... I would have singled you out if I thought it was you.

Not sure where you're getting these numbers from. Source? Are we ignoring that 50% of the time they didn't play together?
Together
Marner: 1.00PPG
Matthews: 1.03PPG
Apart
Marner: 0.74PPG
Matthews: 0.68PPG
You can double-check the math if you'd like.
Looks like it plummets when they play with others.

LOL. I'm asking not what the numbers mean, but where you're getting the numbers from.Their PPG the playoffs they played with each other and away from each other.
Yeah, close call IMO.Not sure what line I hate more
Matthews with Marner
Or
Domi Tavares Nylander
Playoffs start in April, has no bearing on tonights game.Their PPG the playoffs they played with each other and away from each other.

You squirrels seem confused, this is a GDT.I am telling you what the numbers are, their main linemates can easily be found on Moneypuck, and their points can easily be found on the NHL website.
I didn't think you'd need to verify their most common linemates because it was obvious what years Matthews was with Nylander or Domi and which years he was with Marner.
Then points, figured you'd know nhl.com has that.
Thanks?

GDT is an acronym for Game Day Thread
Points totals and "main linemates" aren't enough to calculate the numbers you posted. If you can't explain how you arrived at those numbers then don't expect anyone to accept them as factual.I am telling you what the numbers are, their main linemates can easily be found on Moneypuck, and their points can easily be found on the NHL website.

Yes of course it's more complex, that's why I asked how you arrived at these numbers that you posted:Their point totals drop significantly in the series they play away from each other, this is not difficult.
It is obviously more complex than that, but your analysis was just "their point totals plummet" and "we will win if we split them up".
Maybe address that they've won more together than apart?
They've played 4 playoffs together and 4 apart.
