Bunting Matthews Kase
Kerfoot Tavares Spezza
Ritchie Nylander Marner

Coupleof things here

1- Nylander is excelling in Matthews line
2- Kerfoot isn't a top 6 player
3- Nylander isn't a good C
4- Spezza on the 2nd line is too much for him at 38.

I have been trying to sell this idea of balancing out the top 9 with 1 X $11 mil player on each line since the summer. I also had Nylander at #3 centre and Marner as his winger.

Then fill around your 2 X #1C who should be able to carry their own lines at their cap hits and abilities.

This is my work-around having 4 core players taking up 1/2 your cap, forcing the opposition into trying to shutdown 3 lines.

Worked for Pitt in 2016 and 2017

Mix and match Spezza + 2 of Ritchie, Mikheyev, Semyonov, Simmonds

If you need to go 3 lines deep, move Tavares back to his own line and go

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Nylander-Kase
Engvall-Tavares-Spezza
Mikheyev-Kampf-Semyonov

Craig Button said secondary scoring isn’t required and pointed to Tampa’s Cup run last year as proof.

Not sure how he gets there. If we call Killorn the 4th of their "big 4" the next group of forwards are Palat, Cirelli, Coleman. Gourde, Johnson. That is a pretty solid group who didn't fill the net this playoff but were skilled enough to execute their chances when needed. Gourde was their 8th best point getter and still managed 6 goals. Also how often does a Cup winner face last years Habs and Isles for their last two series? Or the Isles and Dallas from 2020? Their depth allowed them to win without Stamkos in 2020 unlike the Leafs without JT. Facing a bunch of stingy shutdown defenses maybe makes the scoring look weaker but the goals mean more. Just another wacky Button take to get a reaction :)

JT Miller would fit like a glove. Cost would be high, though.
JT Miller is a good player, and he would be an ideal style of player but he is a whiniest bitch I think I can ever recall watching.

I watch a lot of Canucks games. He easily has the worst body language on the team. Who knows what the story is behind it all, because I don't remember a lot of this pouty shit in his first year here in Vancouver. I know there was a major falling out with this entire team after they let Marky and Tanev walk without even offering them a contract. There's long been rumors that the players were upset by that decision. Maybe he was one of them..

Nonetheless, If he misses a pass, or a teammate misses a pass, or just in general if any frustration sets in he just drags his ass to the bench and smashes his stick into the boards. A lot of the time you can hear his temper tantrums on the broadcasts.

Even my buddies who are all Canucks fans see it too. So it's not me just making shit up being the Canuck hater that I am.

You can tell he attitude would wear thin on the boys. Look at Holtby's face last year after Miller just dog f***s on getting back.

This shit happens almost every game, I am not even exaggerating

Maybe it's just a shitty situation in Vancouver, or maybe he is part of that shitty situation. Who really knows. I just wouldn't be moving heaven and earth to acquire the player TBH, even though he is a really good player when he plays to his abilities

Scoring update:

(in order of ES TOI)

Top-4: 24 goals
Mid-4: 12 goals
Bot-4: 5 goals
Defense: 2 goals

My biggest concern is we've seen Keefe going with the Tavares-Matthews-Marner line a few times already this year when we've needed offense and it's done absolutely nothing.

You pay 3 guys 11 million each you better get your money's worth out of them and when you put them all together they need to dominate.
