Marner is probably the softest player on the Leafs. Nylander has turned it on. The Marner skate-by and over-passing can be infuriating.
I never understand this line of thinking. Why are you critiquing Marner, then throw in the Willie part, like it has anything to do with it. It’s like this... Thornton was useless tonight. Kerfoot turned it on. The Thornton missed passes were maddening.

Make no sense to me.

Being a Leaf fan in that third was as stressful as being an extra in a horror movie. It sure felt scary.

good win.

we had a few passenger forwards tonight and still pulled it off. I agree with the calls to get Brooks and maybe Robertson in tomorrow. Maybe Nash and Jumbo come out. But I wouldn’t take Jumbo out unless Foligno is back in

Good first 20 mins, great second period from us and the last period was ugly. Not a fan of just trying to defend the lead by dumping the puck in and not forechecking, that almost bit us in the ass a couple times in the 3rd.

Kerfoot had a great game today, Marner was average/slightly good today , need him to pick it up and dominative the game. Did not like Jumbo Joe again tonight, hes not bringing anything to the game.. Can't forecheck, for the most part the puck dies on his stick.

All in all, ill take the W any day of the week, heres hoping we can put them on the brink tomorrow night.

"Thornton is one of the greatest passers of all time"

He fooled me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd rather win ugly than lose sexy, even if that was mostly a great 40 followed by a Chinese fire drill of a third.

I've been on the Kerfoot train since the start of the year - his finish isn't good and he's small but he plays hard and smart. Nazem Kadri will never get a term longer than two years again.

I'm loving Engvall's newfound trollishness. He'll never be a star but I can see a 30-40 point guy who plays smart, has reach and can throw a timely check, a very useful guy to have on the bottom six who can jump up if he needs to.

This was the first game since he's been back that Hyman looked like a junkyard dogg, were gonna need it.

Willy, what can I say? You sexy motherf***er.

Mitch, what can I say? You trying too hard to be sexy motherf***er. He is a sublime offensive talent but he's gotta start stepping up when it matters, else in a few years his name gets put out there.

He didn't show up on the scoresheet but Matthews is steamrolling guys and playing very smart hockey in the D zone. Not today and maybe not tomorrow but I see serious Selke votes coming.

Mo with the winner. Its kind of hard to blame him on the Suzuki goal because he was trying to be non-committal in case the second Montreal forward rushed up, but damn, 1-2-3 so far while moving the puck well and making smart reads, and some of you want to give him away for Sam Steel and a 2nd or some shit.

Bogo, Holl and Brodie with the smart snarl on the backend, I'm loving this new D depth we have going.

Jacky boy! Got to mostly chill for the first two periods but he was there when we needed him for the third. Plays a very efficient style of game. I absolutely do not want to see Freddy tomorrow.

Jumbo Joe is slow as hell, but at least he can move the puck on the PP. Why the hell is Simmonds not being placed in front of the net on the PP, looks like a beer leaguer when he tries to make a pass.

On the Habs end...

I love that the boys love to abuse Gallagher, only six more years at 6.5 after this one.

Weber is done. He's not even fleet enough to launch his patented shot anymore without someone getting in his face, all he can do is goon it up. 7.8 until he's 40.

When Joel Edmundson and John Merrill are your best D, you have a problem.

That Caufield kid has a knack for finding the open ice but we mostly kept him in check.

KK looks different in the post-season, still not worthy of a 3rd overall, but at least you notice him.

Suzuki woke up, but it's not enough - he'd be our 4th best forward on most nights.

Price was godlike but isn't unbeatable.

They're g oing to extend Bergevin, aren't they?

I really don't get the "turtle" strategy.

On another note whatever the hell happened to the Habs appealing if they can bring fans into the building. Did that get nixed

Boring ass game.

Campbell won that game for the Leafs.

If Montreal had any semblance of offence they would have taken this game.

Do it again tomorrow.

Campbell is awesome, what a way to rejuvenate his career here.

He always had talent just wasn't given the time to show it, I'd say he's also a late bloomer, plenty of goalies are.

I'm actually going for the Oilers tonight, if Jets sweep they've got tons of time to rest for round 2.

Because typically Marner and Nylander both play that similar soft style in the regular season. One of them has broken out of it while the other hasn't.

Make no sense to me.

Not to be overly critical but the Habs are NOT a good enough team to try to turtle against for a full 20 minutes with a 1-goal lead. Like why would you go that conservative? Jack Campbell is a great goalie but why are we relying on him so much against a middling team?

And someone get Thornton off the ice. Dude does nothing on either end and acts almost like a pylon on the PP but not the good Simmonds kind in front of the net either. He's such a waste of a roster spot and if the coach is too intimidated to bring him out then Dubas needs to. You can't honestly tell me Adam Brooks or a healthy Robertson would be making less of a contribution than Thornton.

Real happy about only giving up 4 goals in 3 games.

Team has showed all year that they can play solid defensive hockey when they want to. Saw 40 minutes of it tonight. Hoping for 60 more tomorrow.

Counterpoint to the prevailing thought on how bad that 3rd period was: that's 8 whole minutes the habs have plate 6on5 and not scored a single goal on us. That has to be in their heads now. Tonight they played desperate with the extra attacker. Even had their sniper smurf on the ice and still zip.
That has to be demoralizing. They will also be more tired than us tomorrow. We can ride adrenaline and they can carry sorrow
