Wow, that was too close.

This is awesome.

Looked like a pretty routine pass to me.
Agreed - there were many great passes made out there today. Kerfoot made at least one great pass tonight, Matthews had a beautiful pass to Marner giving him a wide open lane but Marner elected to try to stickhandle it into the net again and had his pocket picked AGAIN. Marner had another pretty good chance and instead of taking the shot he over stickhandles himself to the back of the net and decided to try to be Gretzky. On the PP I'm not even sure if he bothers even looking like he could possibly shoot the puck.

11 million per year.... you need to have more than one memorable pass in a game and definitely not so many lowlights.

Wins a win if not for some stellar saves by Price that could've been a 5-1 game again easily.

Looks like Marner is playing scared. The little self preservation stop ups, the puck watching, the poke checks. He made a few brilliant defensive poke checks and stuffed Weber and assisted on that GWG. And had a couple of high energy PK’s. So it’s not all lost at all. But in a very hard fought environment he’s definitely hesitant to get in the fray and I think it hurts his effectiveness.

The funny part is Nylander is doing the opposite of what you said and becoming a playoff guy, shedding the soft label. Marner is earning the soft player label now.

Think about those Columbus games when Toronto would get shut down, I think what you want is to have one forechecker high with speed disrupting the breakout and then clog up all the space on the defensive end of the neutral zone, making your stand on the blueline and using the potential offside as your friend. Whatever gets through that red rover situation you have strength in numbers. In short. Stand up at the blueline and don’t concede the entry. I prefer to see that trapping style because defending the goal line is way too stressful to watch as a fan and the margin of error is very thin.

Wouldnt be opposed to swapping willy and marner tomorrow night.

Hyman Matthews Nylander
Gally Foligno Marner

Willys speed have given the habs fits all series long and could create more space for matthews.

Marner has been brutal. Too soft, too cute, way too hesitant to shoot.

To be fair he got the game winning assist. For people talking about changes, imo if your making one your giving Thornton the night off but he played practically all back to backs. Hopefully Foligno is ready to go.

With Nylander going, he provides us scoring from a different line.

Positives: Great game by Campbell and Kerfoot. Respect to Holl for practically blocking that shot face first. Decent game by Rielly. Brodie and Muzzin solid. Great first two periods.

Negatives: Terrible game by Spezza and Thornton. Thornton should not play tomorrow (Brooks should come in). Thornton on the PP is laughable. Nash is equivalent to Gauthier. Galchenyuk with his worst game as a Leaf. Can't sit back like we did in the third being outshot 14-2. Need more from the Matthews line. All the lines to me are a mess.

Robertson in tomorrow please. We need the firepower. I'd sit Thornton for him. Or sit Nash. And if they don't want to do that, I'd sit Galchenyuk. He hasn't responded to the benching the way I'd hoped. Really hope Foligno is good to go tomorrow. I felt uncomfortable with our lines most of the net tbh. Especially with Marner having a trash performance and weighing the top line down
Robby in for Chucky, can't see Jumbo coming out atm (I'd keep Nash because of the role he's currently filling).

Marner with the beautiful set up to Rielly on the GWG

If he’s not dominating the game, making plays on goals like that are fine by me.

With all due respect, he's paid to be much more of a positive difference maker for us.

Jumbo needs a game off, whether or not Foligno is back tomorrow. Is it Brooks or Robertson next in?
