Leaf Nation Torontonistan
The 2 following years Kariya put up 85 and 75 pts, Selanne put up 90 and 94. Neither were washed up they simply had bad seasons, Which could literally happen to anyone, in any year.

They only had one season with the avalanche. They had bad seasons because of injuries.
Kariya is injury prone and has issues with concussions.
Selanne had one leg a few inches shorter than the other. Took a few years to regain those inches.

Colorado during this season has no similarities with Toronto.

You always have a different angle to discredit the leafs after every season. Now that they are cup contenders you’re trying to take a shot at their depth. How was Tampa’s depth the year after their farm team one the Calder cup. The fact that the Marlies iced a young team that won speaks volumes about the depth coming into the organization.

Sure we don’t know if it’ll be transferable but it’s not like we’re expecting them to lead our team in scoring. They are depth players. You’re being heavily skeptical if you think a Marlies championship team doesn’t have at least a few players that can provide solid depth for the leafs in the future.

I mean if the champions have this much doubt, god help the other unfortunate teams.

Grand rapids won the year prior... we have about one actual NHLer from that team...

I'd like to see the Leafs win but I doubt those core defencemen get them there. For some reason a lot of Leaf fans seem to be in denial about this but you have to give to get, and someone like Nylander (or equivalent, and no I don't mean Kapanen) needs to go to bring in a high-end d-man. The cap space might be fine as is, but the pieces need to be moved around a bit IMO in order to win.

One thing I don't see happening is Nazem Kadri wanting to stay on as 3rd line center. He has a huge opinion of himself and will see himself as no worse than #2 center very likely. I think he either gets moved or he goes W on one of the top 2 lines.

I think he will get to feast against opposition trying to matchup against the two headed Tavares-Matthews monster plus continue to enjoy the same or better success on the power play.

Calvin De Hann now sucks

First example of Leafs cap crunch

They could only go 1 year

He’d immediately be there best defender

Lightning & Bruins will load up Stamkos & Bergeron lines on Reilly and nullify his stength and keep him in the defensive zone for entire shifts

A puck possession line like Bergeron’s will have those inexperienced and defensively challenged Leafs defenseman in a puddle
The Leafs took the Bruins to game seven this year and have since added Tavares and the aging Bruins did what exactly this off season?

Note that every argument both for and against Dubas is speculation because he has only been on the job for what a month? This it has nothing to do with his age/experiance he could be a 50 yo vet GM and people would still be leery. That's because there is a greater chance that the Leafs will find themselves in some sort of cap trouble (not this year) but starting in 2019/20 season than not. Every team that ends up with 2 forwards making over 25% of the cap runs into some sort of cap trouble that prevents them from icing an ideal contending team. Ideally like the Blackhawks the issue happens after winning multiple cups, The Penguins only won 1 cup when Malkin and Crosby signed their 2nd contract and it was not until the cap rose enough and they were on their 3rd contract that enough balance was brought into their roster to win them the cup again, the Oilers are already in cap trouble after signing Draisatl and McDavid. The foundation of his entire plan on keeping Nylander/Marner/Matthews with the addition of Tavares plus be competitive is that every player signing will leave money on the table in order to play for the Leafs and that they continue to find skilled cheap replacements and its been proven that that rarely happens.
So could Dubas build the next Detroit and be this generations Ken Holland, yes but its more likely he is not
No the foundation is to sign the core and fill in the forwards with players on ELCs.
When those players age out Dubas will decide if any of the raising cap will be used on them or he will flip them for picks.
The defence will be drafted and developed internally (LILJEGREN, DURZI, RASANEN, DURZI) and by flexing their financial muscles by scouting undrafted players (ZAITSEV, BORGMAN, ROSEN, OZIGHANOV).
Rinse....repeat...

They should build a cemetary next to Scotiabank Arena so Leafs fans can whistle walking by it to games.

Keep believing your defense is good and there are no Cap problems don’t exist as soon as the Forty Million foursome are all on the books in 2019-20 the Leafs third jersey should be a drawing of the Titanic going down.

The bottom 4 Forwards will known as the Colin Greening Memorial by 2020.

I can’t wsit till the Bruins match up the Bergeron line against that super star defensive duo of Reilly & Zaitsev. Good luck getting it consistently out of the zone.

The Leafs are so top heavy it’s going to be hilarious watching them tip over and crash

the best part of this post is that in reality, the leafs are one of the deepest teams in the league, replete with a championship AHL team full of cheap young talent.

meanwhile, there may not be a team more reliant on one great line than those Bruins.

It's funny you call the Leafs top heavy but you only ever seem to mention the Bergeron line don't the Bruins have more than one line?

You know, we were hearing all the same things in November of last year. Then the Bruins dusted the Leafs and that was that.

I mean...I wouldn't say winning the series in the third period of Game 7 after losing a 3-1 series lead is really a "dusting", but if you say so.

They sent the Leafs to the off-season with six rookies in the line-up. They'll be fine.

Ridiculous? I'm not sure what more he needs to do to convince you. He's a two time Hart finalist that consistently puts up a ppg playing with wingers that don't belong on an NHL 1st line.
It's ridiculous because he's not a better player than multiple players in that poll
