JT does so many things that contribute to winning but are often overlooked. His details are impeccable and he is still one of the most lethal forwards in the world around the net, and one of our best forwards on the cycle.

I would also suggest watching JT more closely the next time you have a chance, preferably with the volume off and after you know the outcome to avoid emotional bias. There is a reason JT has put up numbers his entire life, even when he isn't noticeable, and it's not because he is lucky or a stat merchant.
I can’t tell if you’re serious…….honestly

Is it Defence, goalie or just the fact that, as a team, we are just not as good as we think. No doubt, AM, MM, Willie, Reilly and JT are great players in the league but how often had they all played great in the same game and make others better than they are.
Great players != a great team.

I feel the forwards struggle at playing situational defence (especially the new adds). See goal 4 tonight.

I feel the defence is missing 1 solid defender. Brodie has fallen off, Gio is too old.

I feel we are missing a reliable goalie. Our 'starter' is mentally spent, our 'backup' is as fragile as Lupul ever was and we are running with our 'third', who thankfully has saved the season so far.

Most importantly, I feel our core is flawed. Matthews is good both ways. Tavares is reliable and consistent, Marner is dynamic offensively, good defensively but a major no-show against tough opponents, Nylander struggles defensively but dynamic offensively. Pick any 3, and fill in the gaps of the missing player with the extra money.

The fact you think this team needs more scoring.. I dunno what to say man.

They had a 3-0 lead, and could not hold it. They had a 3-1 lead on Thursday and could not hold it... and so many more just this season.

Robertson's current game does not feed into a shut it down style, in fact, we have seen him contribute to the giveaways and enable the opponent more than anything, yes even his fantasy 20 goals.

All that being said, the other guys are not getting the job done either, so what's the harm I suppose?

I am not a fan of how he plays, and welcome him proving me to be an idiot.

What's the best way to protect a lead? Have the puck in the opponent's zone. They will push but you need to have a counter punch and not just be hemmed in your own zone. The Leafs hardly generated anything after the first period, so yeah, Robertson could've played a role tonight. When the top guys aren't rolling, you need the secondary pieces to step up

Get the 4th goal instead of sitting back.

1 powerplay all game vs 4 powerplays, 2x back to back calls at 3-0 and 3 non calls on a tripping on Domi on a 2 on 1, cross check boarding to Matthews in the corner is game management to ensure Colorado could stay in the game relative to what looked like a blowout in progress. They got back to back calls when they were down, they didn't give Toronto a call to stop Colorado comeback momentum.

That is preferential treatment in favour of Colorado to keep interest levels up in one market at the expense of a golden goose market that will eat NHL shit whatever happens. That is the league saying, these saps will pay $150 a period to sit in the lower bowl whatever product is in front of them. We don't mind stacking the deck to keep building that PP feast that is Mackinnon, Rantanen, Makar.
Great, it still isn't worthy of some sort of conspiratorial vent on the league.

The Avs carried the play from at least the Drouin goal onward, so you're more likely to be penalized when playing that way, particularly against a team like that. But are you certain that the Leafs didn't get away with any infractions throughout the game? No one seems to keep track of those.

I feel he would have been eliminated at every corner because he is weak as fck. There was no open space, so I don't know how he would have found any space to make any sort of positive impact. We'll never know.

The refs altered the path of the game with the no call on the hook on Matthews, but hen made the call right after than on JT. Once Colorado got rolling, momentum took over and the Leafs couldn't get it back. No offence, Nicky was NOT changing that.

No it's okay guys.

The Leafs just need to sign a couple more guys to 10 million dollar contracts and I'm sure things will even out

Just read the entire thread, ya I'm an idiot, and two things are abundantly clear: 1) we've a lot of very passionate fans here, and 2) some of those folks need to consider popping a Xanax. Marner and veneers...jesus h christmas, ya gotta be kidding me.

Does anyone still think this team has any chance of winning a cup in the next decade or so?
Not if they sign Marner, no. They have to do something different. Get rid of Marner. JT will be gone soon or on a very team friendly deal. Then they can make some major changes. This team just doesn't seem to have it.

With the win tonight Arizona has now tied Toronto with 21 wins.

This Leafs team is simply mediocre.
Hard to argue that. Mediocre + as a team I say, with all issues we see night in and night out. The reason they are better than mediocre is because of the top end talent that gets wins that other teams do not. No against tough opponents, lol, just in general.

88 points is putting up numbers? If I’m making that statement said player better be over 100

I don't know. The refs obviously thought they were the main attraction tonight and had the right to tip the scales and when Keefe objected they put away the whistles to punish the Leafs on a handful of blatant non calls. I'm not sure what ego nonsense or agenda drives Kelly Sutherland and Kendrick Nicholson to insert themselves into an NHL game, manage the outcome and carry out personal BS on a coach. Maybe someone more hostile or respectable keeps them in check.
Kelly Sutherland - born in Vancouver [Richmond] BC

You're right!!

We have 2 C, 2 RW. Now we need 2 LW and... 2 D, oh and a G.

Everyone else on league minimum and run only three lines

I will disagree wholeheartedly on Tavares' details. The amount of times he's blind spraying that puck from the boards out to open ice is horrendous. He wins faceoffs and can grind it out down low and puck protect, but I categorically reject JT having great details.
I've personally never found that to be a noticeable weakness of his. The one thing I wish he did better was manage his spacing at the net front better. The best player in the world at this imo is Matthews because he gets to the net, but consistently gives himself enough space to maneuver the puck for a shot. For all of his strengths at the net, I find JT often gets too tight to the net which forces him to shovel rebound attempts right into the goalies pads. Ideally you want to be in between so that you are closer to the net and thus have a higher chance to score but also far enough from the goalie that you have space to lift the puck or move the puck and then shoot it.

Drouin also committed a holding penalty on Giordano right before Gio took a penalty.

It’s not a conspiracy. Everyone knows the sport is game managed.

System is part of it with lack of talent on defense.

We have known Brodie and Giordano had to be replaced before this year.

Klingberg was the answer?

We all can see this right?

Is being slow, giving pucks away constantly and hitting the goalie in the chest, redeeming qualities?

If they said they didn't see the play, they would have some plausible deniability at least. To claim what they (the refs) are claiming suggests to me that they're seeing what they want to see, or, they're just flat out lying because they can't admit they goofed the call.

Don't you know? Matthews is the God of centrifugal force. He's able to rotate and move one way while simultaneously flinging himself the other way
