And why not? This market pumps in the most amount of money to that god awful hockey related revenue racket, pays up for all their novelty cash grabs like the World Cup, and get treated like the Canadian half wit while they try to sell this useless sport to a continent that couldn't care less.
Because it's an elitist and petulant response.

No one is forcing anyone to buy a ticket.

On his worst night he is still going to be better than Gregor. I'm not sure that was the best coaching decision.
Gregor in a good system could be a useful player. If they fall out of the playoffs he might be a tradable commodity.

Tavare needs to understand that he's not the same player he was like 5 years ago. He's trying too hard to make plays, by holding the puck and not skating, he turns over the puck crazy. Better to use your IQ and make quick plays instead of trying to do everything yourself, Can't wait for his contract to get because thats the year I think we will see the best ice leafs team, which is a shame.
Great players adjust. Let's see how his game evolves.

When you see the impact of a Cale Makar at $9 million on the ice, and then you see Mitch Marner struggle to even physically be on the ice, no separation speed, no in traffic strength, no awareness to play a tight game, it's so easy to justify letting him walk at the end of his contract. He's so unpopular. I just wonder how much his future as a Leaf is tied to getting Matthews to sign the next deal. Like if they're essentially Thornton Marleau for life.
What's painful is that Makar is probably underpaid by about $3 or $4 million per season.

They are not falling out of a playoff position. Not even close.

Outside of his first year this is the same Tavares for the last 5. Disappearing for long stretches being nonexistent during games. Wasting pucks no hands aside from around the net.

The entirety of this organization needs to shit on the refs for the rest of the year. And I'm not talking about once every couple of games. I mean EVERY SINGLE QUESTION that is asked from now until the end of the season. Disregard the question entirely and instead respond with refs were shit like usual. *reporter* you guys won 7-0 tonight Samsonov with the shutout how has his game turned around. Well you know the refs were clueless again missing and making up calls all night, I guess that's how it goes.
They should be truthful and say something along the lines of “ I wish we had better coaching, more speed, better D and a little more jam in our skilled players.”

When you have to pay elite prices in this market to fund the try before you buy pricing around the league, you're damn right I'm going to be petulant when this market is treated like this by the league. Colorado came in here on our HNIC night, and the league fixed them up like they were walking into Columbus.

You think LA Dodger fans would enjoy their team being salary capped to Milwaukee Brewers budget while getting bullshit calls so the Colorado Rockies can walk away with a nice W? They might be upset too.

Trouble with Tavares is his year end stats line isn't directly related to the (positive) impact he has every time he's out on the ice. It's good that he's a cookie monster, but his numbers also mask significant flaws in his ability to drive that 2C role.

Compare Tavares shift to shift vs Mats Sundin, it's like night and day. But whereas Mats was always impactful but his numbers lagged, Tavares is often not impactful but generates stats.
Sure, but he's not a 1C. He's the 2C and there aren't many better in that role.

I would give Robertson a shot in Bertuzzi's spot on the 2nd line.
No disrespect intended but that’s a waste of time. They have nothing that fixes this team.
The fix is going to have to start with a new team president or maybe even higher then him.
We need management that expect winning to be the teams culture………and we have the invisible Shanny in his ivory tower

I mean it's going to sound rough, but when you compare the 5 on 5 impact of an Alex Kerfoot, like just the mechanical basics like skating, puck transporting, clean crisp passes, defensive awareness, just making plays in open ice and penalty killing, I'd say Kerfoot is actually a more responsible, involved and better shift to shift player than Tavares.

When it comes to offensive production (stats), powerplay, net front and below the hash marks grinding and cycling and small area plays, faceoffs, shooting and offensive touch, Tavares comes out way ahead.

But like I say, the flaws in JT's game are masked by the production. But shift to shift, it's often not that pretty with him out there.
