What money is in it for the players?

There's vast amounts of wealth if you can break into that market, the NBA already has and this is an opportunity for hockey to do the same thing

You don’t get paid to be an Olympic athlete. You get $ for every medal you win. & They make literally peanuts winning any medal at the Olympics (at least Canadian athletes) and from what I know, most professional athletes who win a medal usually donate those winnings to charity.

a lot of the NHL players will be walking away from the Olympics with no money and no medal. They are doing it because they want to represent their country. Also I don’t agree with what’s going on in china( but Olympics do not generate money for your country. It’s a known money pit for the host cities.

China is an extremely lucrative market hockey has been trying to break into, so let's not pretend money isn't a strongly motivating factor in all this

Olympics may be money pits but they are also places host nations and cities can show themselves in a very favorable light to the rest of the world, this is a public relations win for a country that is doing stuff that would make 30's Germany blush

The small group of players that do go, hurt the whole league financially, and an even smaller group, Sid, Ovie, Bergeron to name a few that are taking their last kick at the at the can that really push for the players to participate. I get why, but, considering where it’s being held they should have sat out this time.

It’s not too late, hopefully they do.

Well, the owners don’t want to go, because they know there’s no money in it.

who would ever have thought that an owner may be interested in growing the sport eh.

I absolutely adore olympic hockey discussions. All the day time gas station attendants turn into junior business execs to tell everyone how the owners do business in the NHL.

It’s not happening. They aren’t missing two in a row. The political aspect has nothing to do with them. That’s been their dream. NHL should have thought of this before missing Russia for no reason besides greed. If they let the players go to Russia then maybe the consider staying home.

NHL was unwilling to help out the players, now people expect the players to do something for them? Hell no

Only after adorably trying to be a GM of the Leafs first.

How many NHL players are going? Seems like a very small percentage get any benefit for a condensed schedule. Selfish on their part.

Has the Olympics ever grown the sport? The owners get nothing but the risk.

Watch USA hockey pick demko over campbell, even though campbell probably deserves it more.

Sweden:

Landeskog - Lindholm - Forsberg
Pettersson - Bäckström - W.Nylander
Olofsson - Zibanejad - Raymond
Arvidsson - W.Karlsson - Bratt
Höglander, Silfverberg

Hedman - Brodin
Lindholm - Karlsson
Dahlin - Andersson
Ekholm - Forsling

Markström
Lehner
Lars Johansson

I dont see Engvall, Liljegren and Sandin making it

Wonder if Campbell is playing his way on to the team. Be nice for him but I’d prefer he rest

You're probably right but it's going to tough to keep him out playing the way he is.

for sure! Secretly I don’t want him to go bc he needs that week to rest, but I can see him being the #3 on the team. Good locker room guy

Not the Leafs, but anyone want to talk about how the Rangers have 4 defenceman you could make a case for to be on the USA Olympic team. Fox, Trouba, Lindgren, and the last is a stretch, will likely be in the running in 2026, but Miller.

My question:
Is Jake Campbell making a case to be on team USA, Ala Troy terry???

Kase and Kampf are likely, as is Mrazek.

USA goalies are interesting. https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/nationality/active-american-nhl-goalies-career-

Helly starter but after him. Gibson probably there, he's off to a hot start and he's got a track record. Demko I'd think goes. Could also see them taking Knight over 1 of those guys. I though Campbell might have a chance but I'm thinking it's between those 4 at this point. And you still have guys like Quick, Petersen, and Nedeljkovic.

Third goalie is unlikely to play.

Campbell brings the skill plus the locker room greatness to get consideration for that spot
