Tavares on the larger ice surface...not sure if he'll make the cut.
Wouldn't that be better for him in a sense? More time and space to use his stickhandling to separate himself plus he'll get more open looks in the slot where he is money.

Can't wait for this. It's gonna be so much fun.

It'll also be interesting to see which players come out of the Olympics hot, and propel their team on a run once play resumes. Case can also be made about injuries too.

I know the players are excited too, Olympics is big boy time. They will lay it all out and some players might even learn how to further enhance their game playing in this kind of tournament.

I can’t wait either. I just looked at the times and dates of the preliminary rounds for Canada.

February 10th vs Germany is at 9 P.M Beijing time, which is 8 A.M Eastern Canada, 5 A.M West, 6 A.M central.

February 12th vs the U.S at Noon Beijing time, 11 P.M Eastern, 8 P.M West and 9 P.M Central.

February 13th vs China at 9 P.M Beijing time (See vs Germany for all other start times. Lol)

As a Swede i hate Canada in international hockey, with a big H. More then Finland , wich i realy dont hate i just hate to lose against them, they are the worst to loose against. Usa dont make me feel anything.

I hate team Swedens system and we got to many meh players. So we will suck. No medal for you!

I can't wait to watch it
In my mind only 2 deadbolt locks
Matty for Team USA
Willy for Team Sweden
I think Rielly has next best chance to play on Team Canada and I expect he will make team
Don't see either Mitch of JT on team as too many flaws in each guys game

Brutal, wish they weren't going.

Locks:
Matthews (USA)
Marner (Canada)
Nylander (Sweden)
Kase (Czech)
Mrazek (Czech)

Your Team America #1 center, Auston Matthews, he's already been confirmed.

Canada is lucky, they have centers out the ass but very few natural wingers. Who's a better Canadian natural winger than Marner? Marchand and Huberdeau definitely but who else? Stone is injury prone, he's injured right now, Mitch is in.

I'm foggy on things eligibility wise but talent wise Willy absolutely belongs on Sweden, I'd say Lindholm and Zibanejad are better, maybe Landeskog and Pettersson, but he should be a top six forward there.

The Czech is a small hockey country, so Kase and Mrazek are shoo-ins.

Outside shots:
Rielly (Canada)
Tavares (Canada)
Campbell (USA)
Mikheyev (Russia)

Do you like Mo more than Theodore, Nurse or Morrissey? I would pencil him in on the third pair but things happen, I think he has the best shot of all of the outside shots.

I don't think JT supplants any of Canada's dozens of elite centers (it'll be McDavid, Crosby, Bergeron and someone else at C) and doesn't have the speed to play the wing.

We love Jackie Boy but I'm thinking he's up for the third string job behind Hellebuyck and Gibby, competing with Demko, Knight and Nedeljkovic. He's shown enough to be taken relative to the competition but you never know.

I don't know of developments in the KHL but Russia has never been a deep forward group - lots of stars like Ovy, Malkin, Kaprizov, Svech and Breadman, but not a lot of depth, and remember Kuznetsov is banned for a few more years. Mikheyev would fit nicely with his speed on a 4th line.

I know the players want to play but it’s not a good idea to be putting hockey on the back burner during February. Football is over and they have a brief window and they’re going on hiatus.

ETA - if 8 Leafs went, it wouldn’t be much of a rest for the guys that could use it.

I'm disappointed that not one NHL player has stated they have no interest in going to these Olympics. I won't be watching.

I'm with you on this one, I won't watch any winter Olympics footage either

I can't pretend the Chinese government aren't putting people into concentration camps and commiting all kinds of human rights abuses

I'm not surprised by the players, money talks and they wont get blasted on social media for supporting this abomination

What money is in it for the players?

why in the hell would they say that? Most hockey players dream of going and they’ve sacrificed a lot to miss it last time around. Not a chance they would miss it this time around.

You don’t get paid to be an Olympic athlete. You get $ for every medal you win. & They make literally peanuts winning any medal at the Olympics (at least Canadian athletes) and from what I know, most professional athletes who win a medal usually donate those winnings to charity.

a lot of the NHL players will be walking away from the Olympics with no money and no medal. They are doing it because they want to represent their country. Also I don’t agree with what’s going on in china( but Olympics do not generate money for your country. It’s a known money pit for the host cities.
