It’s my conspire theory. Both are highly touted but none are working. I believe Boudreau is in Toronto with his mom. Interviewed for the assistant coach role but turned it down because he wants to be a head coach. Who interviews for a role and when they get the offer says no and claims they want a head coaching job. To me he wanted to show management/ownership what he would do in a interview in case they move off of Keefe.

Rutherford has 3 cups. He was #2 on the leafs GM search in 2010 behind Holland/Nill. He wanted to come but the Canes denied permission. Then Burke became available and the rest is history.

Leafs corrected the problem by getting experience in Lou and Babcock and a few years later we let them go and go with rookies in Dubas and Keefe. Big mistake.

Window is still open if you have a GM who see there is a problem and is willing to address it. Dubas had 3 years to do it and he didn’t. So get Rutherford who did it with Pittsburgh. Twice.

Two of the better people available and they have strong leaf ties. Both are former leaf players and Boudreau’s first NHL goal came against Rutherford who was a goalie.
