Caufield and Suzuki haven't even been good, so being 3rd to them for this pre-season is still a bad accomplishment.

Gotta hope in the regular season with regular teammates the players play better, otherwise this rebuild is going to look a long way from competing for a playoff spot.
Well…Still two seasons away from that.

It is a real possible issue when your team is waiting for a top pick several years in a row. This worked for PIT because they got Crosby and Malkin, EDM because they got McDavid Draisaitl (and they have not won anything yet) Habs don't have that.

Nah it's not.

MTL as a market have something BUF and EDM don't have. One is talent retention and the other one is the ability to sign Tier-B UFAs at will, if the Habs want a mediocre team that somewhat compete for a playoffs spot this can be done very quickly. The neverending rebuild is a very unlikely outcome.

The difference is Slaf has yet to do what Caufield/Suzuki has done in the NHL.
Its a shame he did not. After all he had that whole 39 games.

What a shame that Suzuki had 15 points after 39 games despite being two years older.

How come Slaf could not have matched that?
