Grigorenko and Girgensons..........big guys but there must be a reason why Grigorenko fell so low.......instead of Rielly and Finn......too early to tell.

Surprised the Leafs didn't almost move up to 1st overall to guarantee they get Rielly.

I kid I kid.

Going to be interesting when the Leafs Behind the Draft stuff comes up to see if they had discussions about if they would have to move up to get him

Is it just me, or wouldn't the 5th overall pick have been enough to get #12 and #21? Throwing in #35 seems like an overpayment from the Leafs.

5 and 35 for 12 and 21? No thanks. Very happy Rielly was still on the board when we picked (although, at the time, I was pulling for Forsberg)

Its strange. a piece of me wishes we drafted Grigorenko, and yet the rest respects the D position. Seeing how depleted a lot of teams are on the back - end (including Toronto) i am happy that we got Rielly.

Grigorenko seems like a class act. The scouts and teams really got the wrong wrap on him. The passion he showed at the world juniors was second to none on his team. He lead by example. Great pick Buffalo.

I'd bet good money that IF this trade went down Buffalo would have taken Grigorenko at #5.

In the video, Reiger says that 5 dmen would have had to been off the board before he woulda taken "their forward". So I imagine he woulda taken one of Rielly, Dumba, or Trouba before Grigo.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I'm pretty sure what he meant was that for Grigs to slip to him it would take 5 dmen from a certain point to go ahead of him. Speaking for myself, I know I was counting dmen at the draft before Buffalo picked because it meant one of Grigs, Forsberg, or edit:Faksa would then be guaranteed to fall to us.

I mentioned this scenario when it was presented to Burke days before the draft which generated this thread title;

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1204263&highlight=moving+down

It could have been an interesting option for Burke if Reilly was indeed taken, but luckily for us that wasn't the case.

I personally would rather Morgan Reilly, he could have the highest ceiling of anyone in this draft, and his skillset is clearly evident.

Pretty sure the target could have been Faska, who was high on Burke's list, which IMO could have been a mistake.
