Confirmed with Link: Leafs acquire Jake McCabe (@50%), Sam Lafferty, cond. 2024 and 2025 5th round picks for Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, 2025 1st (top 10 prot), 2026 2nd

But in the context of a buyout scenario, they recoup decent assets, and it costs them far less actual cash and cap space to retain for 3 more years than a buyout over 6 more years.

It's an avenue to explore at least.

Ah the Leafs PTSD and inferiority complex rears it's ugly head. lol
I'm sorry I don't share your Leafs fond playoff memories and superiority complex you have lol. Honestly, I'm gonna go on record and say Dubas' work this year deserves an extension and if any number of my posts previous show how I'm not a big Dubas fan.

He kept Knies, Niemela, hell ... He kept ALL relevant prospects in our system, be damned with draft picks, their solid drafting has compensated with a nice prospect pipeline.

If they go out in the 1st round again he's GOT to get rid of Keefe. With this talent Dubas put together if they lose it's due to him getting out-coached every year he's been a coach for the leafs

I think it will be

Rielly McCabe
Gio Brodie
Sandin Lilly.

Rielly McCabe
Gio Brodie probably 22 mins each, maybe more giving Sandin and Lilly easier minutes.

If things go well in first round I think Lilly's time will go up and up
no, McCabe much better on the left
my guess is
Rielly-Brodie
Gio-Lilly
McCabe-Holl

and flip Gio and McCabe depending on chemistry with Lilly and how much gas Gio has in the tank

Hawks fan here coming in piece. Good luck in the playoffs. Just here to ask a question what’s the book on Anderson and gogolev?
Cheers

Anderson is a good shooter with solid skill around the net with average speed and average all around game. He's not physical but he'll give a good hard working effort. Probably a solid cheap young player to keep developing and work into a mid line winger. Not sure about his NHL upside but he's alright.

Gogolev has been awful since getting his ELC. Great shot, bad skater and bad defensively. Needs a lot of work but could turn out alright with more development. Very far away from being an NHLer.

Great trade as most have echoed here. Dubas has made his big moves and I am not worried about the draft picks. It feels like everyone freaks out about picks but in a worst case scenario where we end up having to completely rebuild? We will have 3 /4 big players and by trading one of them (say Nylander) we could recoup a huge number of valuable picks again.

Our team is mostly young and under contract, I have a feeling this is the year they get that weight off their shoulders and make a little playoff run

Anderson is very blah. He could probably survive on a 3rd line on a bad team. I wouldn't expect much long term but he can fill an NHL spot through a rebuild. Kind of slow. Works hard.

Gogolev is a contract. He turned a two week hot streak into an ELC a few years ago and has played a nadful of games in the ECHL since.

Yep. This place will do a complete 180 in the coming years if they lose again when it comes to Dubas.

Wasting a large chunk of MNM's primes. Pissing away futures for no results. Leaving the team hamstrung in the years to come. The vitriol will be intense. It'll be Burke on steroids.
That’ll be revisionist history.
He did his part.

Shanahan took a sunken ship and turned it into a respectable franchise, Dubas has made the team better every single year.

All you can do is make the team better and hope it works out and you win a cup, 31 teams lose every year

Kyle Dubas on the acquisition of Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty: “All three forwards we’ve acquired have proven they can score in tight to the net, where we haven’t found a way in key moments in the past”

This is music to my ears. Kyle finally gets it, and after three playoffs in a row of watching teams exploit our inability/unwillingness to get inside and score greasy goals by shelling up, cutting off the slot and blocking anything from the hash marks out, Dubas has finally brought in some potential answers.

I don't understand why not dump one of Holl/Kerfoot/Engvall instead of dumping a 1st rounder for 50% retention.

I dont get it
do you believe they'd take any of them instead of a 1st ?

hell Dubie's a f***ing idiot when he keeps spewing how he did a great jobs keeping all our prospects instead of the 1sts he dealt , like somehow any of them are worth more than late 1st other than Knies and few if any are even worth more than the 2nds we gave up

Dubas is legitimately going for it. No more "one in the pan moves", this is the real overhaul needed.

My humble aadvice to Dubas: give it all you can on Deadline Day and no one can ever dare say you didn't try or lack the effort.

We all know the type.of players this team needs, just get them and replace the passengers when the game gets in the trenches.

'Going all in' should be the theme of our playoff avatars these playoffs
