Confirmed with Link: Leafs acquire Jake McCabe (@50%), Sam Lafferty, cond. 2024 and 2025 5th round picks for Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, 2025 1st (top 10 prot), 2026 2nd

So what are we looking at?

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Tavares-ROR-Marner
Engvall/Kerfoot-Kampf-Jankrok
ZAR-Acciari-Lafferty

Rielly Brodie
Gio Liljegren
McCabe Holl/Sandin

Odd men out: Forwards-> Engvall/Kerfoot; Defense: Sandin/Holl (i'd prefer this cap space be used to improve the roster ffs)

???

:dunno:

Apparently, he was a Sens fan growing up. New ownership in Ottawa might be looking to make a change.
I think that's the most likely spot if he walks. Dorion failed to get the Sens any closer to being competitive and Dubas would likely fit the Sens mould of trying to get by with undervalued or under the radar cheap talent.

Hey my Leafs friends,

Just got in from work and read the news.

Congratulations on a nice piece of business. Looks like you kept your best prospects and mitigated the risk with the 1st Round Pick.

Should be an exciting run to the Playoffs. Really happy for you all.

Say what you will about Dubas but he has defiantly learning what it takes to win in the playoffs. Over the last 2 years he’s adding the right players. Now just need to hope the goaltending holds up because he’s done everything to make the goalies job as easy as possible.

I'm sorry I don't share your Leafs fond playoff memories and superiority complex you have lol. Honestly, I'm gonna go on record and say Dubas' work this year deserves an extension and if any number of my posts previous show how I'm not a big Dubas fan.

He kept Knies, Niemela, hell ... He kept ALL relevant prospects in our system, be damned with draft picks, their solid drafting has compensated with a nice prospect pipeline.

If they go out in the 1st round again he's GOT to get rid of Keefe. With this talent Dubas put together if they lose it's due to him getting out-coached every year he's been a coach for the leafs
I agree with you on this. I think Dubas has fixed his main flaw which was trying to be a nice guy. His signings since the big 3 have all been reasonable to very good as far as term and price paid. He looks like he learned his lesson on that front. He also didn't try and bring in another small "energy" player like Colin Blackwell again. He now sees there is a difference between playoff hockey and reg season hockey. It took a while...he took a lot of lumps but is no longer trying to re-invent the game with small skilled water bugs.

If it looks like Willy is going to want a big payday...he can deal him in the summer and get a lot of the picks back. I doubt very much that Willy will be giving any kind of discount to Dubas...and you really cannot blame him.

Who do you replace Nylander's production with? Knies? Is he comparable?

Well...honestly I don't know that you can replace his production...but you were going to face that issue the following year when he leaves as a UFA anyways. So, I guess he might as well get a lot of picks/talent back for him while he can. He is as good as gone as a UFA IMO.

I saw the trade alert and scanned it looking for Knies before actually reading who we got
LOL I had the same reaction when my friend told me that we had acquired McCabe and Lafferty. I said "please, not for Knies". I think Dubas did really well here upgrading our team with the trades without trading any of our best prospects.

I like this a lot!

McCabe is a quality 2-way dman with some decent toughness/physicality, and with the Hawks eating 50% of his contract, he's on a steal of a deal. This year and 2 more at $2 mil AAV.

Likewise, Lafferty is a quality 2-way bottom 6 forward, also with pretty good toughness/physicality, and also on a nice deal (this year and next at $1.15 mil AAV).

Getting solid, 2-way, physical players signed to cheap deals for multiple years is very valuable for contending teams. Look at what Tampa gave up for Jeannot - more than what we gave up for McCabe AND Lafferty, and I think McCabe @50% alone is probably more valuable that Jeannot.

Our time is now, we gotta be making moves to maximize our chance to win a cup over the next few years, and this deal lines up well with that strategy.

I'm not the biggest Dubas fan but holy f*** is this an insanely good trade

Especially considering what Tampa just did this is an absolute pillaging of the hawks

The 50% for 3 years is insane. If I'm a Blackhawks fan I'm pissed
Money is just money. They needed to retain to complete the deal as leafs have no cap space so they can get the 1st and 2nd.

Wow Dubas is pushing all his chips into the table.... He's all in. It's honestly on the players now. Dubas can go to bed knowing he did everything he could to put this team over the top. We lose in the first round again the core has to be put on the next rocketship to the moon. No more excuses.

do you believe they'd take any of them instead of a 1st ?

hell Dubie's a f***ing idiot when he keeps spewing how he did a great jobs keeping all our prospects instead of the 1sts he dealt , like somehow any of them are worth more than late 1st other than Knies and few if any are even worth more than the 2nds we gave up
Did he do something to you? Something personal?
