It's a goalie. Someone could say something and he could have a decade of despair. I don't trust tenders, very few are consistent out there. I hope he is. I do but again, we don't have a proven tender that anyone under the sun would say, Leafs have xxxxx they are a threat to win it all.
Woll was never going to be that either, so at worst it's one-out-one-in.

unfortunately for the Leafs board, the Flyers board is 95% anti-Flyer. Yeah, way more toxic than where you hang out!

you barely got fair market value. Woll is a real NHL goalie. Nobody else in this trade is a real NHL player...check the salaries and experience.

Flyers got a real NHL goalie. Leafs got 2 chances, a 7th deeman hoper and a 3rd round draft choice
Salary is not a qualification or requirement that makes you a NHL player.

352 games played in the NHL for Benoit. 107 games playing in the NHL would have Andrae begging to differ that he doesn’t have experience in the NHL. Ersson and his 143 games played in the NHL would say he has experience in the NHL. I am not sure what goalposts you are using and moving but that is a combined 602 NHL games played of experience more than any of us, including you and I. Pretty sure they are real NHL players.

Woll is a near 28 year old often injured goalie with a mental fragility that reared its ugly head at the start of last season. If you want him as a back-up to play 20-25 games, he'll be fine in that role. Anything more than that and he turns into a pumpkin.

Philly 1 - Toronto 0

Toronto general manager John Chayka's first change to the roster since taking over in early May is off to a poor start.

This is the kind of move Kyle Dubas would have made.

Hopefully Mats Sundin knows something about these Swedes that others don't.

Another underrated fact about this trade is that although he may not be a ‘major piece’ he does fit the McKenna/Cowan/Koblar timeline being just 24, but also fits into the Matthews/Nylander core as well and someone that can contribute now. Those are the type of players we should target imo.

25+ core: Matthews, Nylander, OEL, Tavares, McCabe, Stolarz, Carlo, Tanev

Under 25 core: McKenna, Knies, Cowan, Koblar, Danford, AA, Hilldeby, Andrae, COL 1st etc

It would be wise to start building around these under 25 players. It would be nice to target some other under 25 year olds like a Bystedt or Graf type player. Maybe Bourque but I doubt he’s available.

Any reasoning behind your opinion?

Why do you think Toronto lost that trade?

just let be honnest with ourself, Woll became basically leafs 3rd g and could felt 4th at any time next season..

I think for everything stolarz did 2 year ago before his injury, he was still in front of Woll...and i think Stolarz is a better partner to help young g progression

Hildeby outplayed Woll pretty easily last year and you can't send him AHL next year...younger, cheaper and at least as good...

and didn't talk about akhtyamov and everything hes doing right now with marlies... carrying this team in his shoulde in road to create biggest surprise in AHL in last i dont know 15-20+ years... last team outside of top 7 to win calder cup was in 2011 . Its just incredible what Ahktyamov doing right now...

leafs had to move and its hard to get high value for your 3rd G

We just had Brad Treliving as our GM and you’re complaining about Dubas like moves lol

As I mentioned earlier, I have no idea who the players coming back as I don’t follow the Flyers. Not going to judge this trade but let’s look at the pieces.

Benny for another depth D
A depth D for depth D.

Difference is Benny is big, physical but can’t really move the puck with very little offence game and older.
While Andra is smaller but quicker and more offensive while younger.

Even at TDL, I don’t any teams would send their top 5 prospects(unless they have no youth) for someone like Benny. At most a 3rd rounder and that’s a very desperate team with literally no depth D available. Most likely a 4th rounder or a C prospect.

Woll for Ersson and a 3rd rounder
Woll if healthy is a good goalie but he can’t stay healthy. Ersson is young and could probably get a 6th or 7th rounder pick.
The trade is pretty much Woll for a 3rd and a late rounder.
Not great but not horrible.

Overall, it is not a horrible trade but also not a great trade. It is one of those trade that is just meh and all depends on Woll staying healthy and the player drafted using the 3rd rounder.

I like the 3rd but don't like andrae thought we should have gotten another pic coming back we have to remember we got Villeneuve who is out of options and will make the roster next year, so andrae being involved in this trade makes no sense would rather have another piece coming back . Also we have a few other marlies defenders who will likely make a push gor the roster.

This move is probably an indication that they don't feel like they have a ton of help from the Marlies blueline coming next season.

I don't think so. Andrae is still young and can improve, good to have competition.

It's all about making room for our young goalies and the plus is we get a pick, get younger and get cap relief. l love it.

If we make 10 trades and Chayka brings us always a little plus we have a big PLUS and that counts ...
I wonder where we are after 100 trades ...
Good Times

for those who hate this trade, what kinda value do you guys think Woll had?
I’m generally curious on what kind of return people expected.

People have no idea what they're talking about. A good comparison is Stuart Skinner.

Skinner is younger, lower cap-hit, more GP, more durable, and made 2 Cup Finals and basically was traded for negative value. Woll has slightly better numbers than Skinner. Skinner had a career save percentage of .904 when he was traded (with double the GP of Woll) versus Woll at .906.

The fact we got a possible PMD + a 3rd is good value.

I know people are going to miss the tank commander, but we don't have our pick next year. Finished the season with 3 straight games in April with a sub .827 save percentage in each one of them was masterful tanking by Woll. It might have been the best tank commander I've ever seen.

So let Ersson walk, and the Leafs tandem is Stolly and Hildeby. Sounds good.

They needed to make room for Hildeby. Leafs freed up Woll's salary too.

Woll showed flashes of being a solid goalie. Problem is he's always injured and then has slumps where he's not as good as thought. Not a terrible goalie or anything. Just very mid. And when he gets injured it's worse.

Kyle Dubas generally made good trades. He often “won” them on value. The problem always was team construction. Hopefully Cheyka can collect assets as well as Dubas, but use them to build an actual functioning roster.
