What is this deal supposed to accomplish besides.. free up some cap I guess?

We still have too many goalies and we just finished getting rid of small mobile defenseman.
There's merit to it.

We have one fewer goalie now (Ersson isn't one).

And maybe it's an admission that we went a little too far with the whole getting rid of small mobile defensemen thing.

Leafs needed a defenseman who could skate the puck out or make a smart pass to exit the zone, Woll isn’t a big loss.

Ya, I get this.

I think letting go of either guy is a risky move. I probably would have preferred Hildeby gone because I think he overachieved last year, and I just don't think I see the potential.

Stolarz has a longer history of performing like a true #1. I think he had the best stats the 2 years before last, but just wasn't playing enough.

I think they made the right decision and actually got good value for Woll, but this definitely could blow up in their face too.
Woll and stolarz have both proven that they are injury prone. Beasts game has only improved. And AA is destroying the ahl. Someone is gonna take him. Why not us? Dont be surpised if stolarz is on robidas island before the year is out

Pretty sure he got injured when our D let a Bruin fall on him right at the end of game 6.

Can't make trades for future considerations.

So waive a $4m guy in the first year of a four year deal to get $1.375 in cap relief. Even worse plan.

I saw him play in a regular season game and he looked decent. See where he's at in a year.

What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean?
I remember reading that it was a minor tweak that wasn’t necessarily going to get better or worse with rest. It just came down to it he was comfortable enough to play but he was medically cleared to play

It’s tough to see the Brick Woll depart. He has such a nice demeanour & seems like such a pro. He got along really well with Stolarz when it could have been a competition thing. He always battled in the net. The only downside against him you could say is injuries but that isn’t his fault. When I heard he got traded, I didn’t like it at all. I see the rationale behind it, I understand we have young goalies. They need a chance to prove they can play & someone had to go. I wish Woll & Benny all the best.

Stolarz has never really performed like a #1 - he's never even played 35 games in a season. He's always been an elite level backup / 1B goaltender.

Part of me wonders if the Leafs may have plans on trading both Stolarz and Woll...

There were rumblings that Jakob Markstrom might be on the way out of NJ; I think if you're the Leafs your probably a little more comfortable figuring Markstrom for 45-50, Hildeby for 30-35, and Akthyamov for 5ish than you are with Stolarz, Hildeby, and Akthyamov needing to come up with 84 games.

I remember everyone telling me what a great pickup Malgin was too...
I was not one of those people..

leafs had to move a goalie.. Their goalies had little value and Woll was the only one with no trade protection.

I view Benoit and Errison and throw ins..

Philly is trading for Woll as their backup.. This tells you what the rest of the league sees his value.

Woll for Andrae and a 3rd is not horrible.. for a often injured backup that is mentally fragile.

After reading the reaction to the trade on the Flyers board, I'm confident that we got more than fair value in this deal.
unfortunately for the Leafs board, the Flyers board is 95% anti-Flyer. Yeah, way more toxic than where you hang out!

you barely got fair market value. Woll is a real NHL goalie. Nobody else in this trade is a real NHL player...check the salaries and experience.

Flyers got a real NHL goalie. Leafs got 2 chances, a 7th deeman hoper and a 3rd round draft choice

The first player is Emil Andrae, the second player is Sam Malinski in 24-25. Looking at the stats, they look comparable with the biggest difference being Malinski shot the puck and Andrae did not like doing the same....now I am not saying we have found ourselves a Sam malinski (borderline 4), but what I am saying is maybe there is more to Andrae then we/you think. Malinski is a bit taller at 5 ft 11, but he's still kinda small and a mere 1 lb heavier then Andrae, and yet he's not a mere 7th dman

Who's to say Andrae can't take a step here be given PP2 time and give us 25-30 points playing 16-17 minutes a game...

Woll is what he is, a 1B who can have magnificent stretches until the inevitable injury, and he's 28 in July, not a spring chicken anymore.

Benoit is a 6D, good guy and we gave him his chance but not a huge piece to part with.

Ersson sucks.

I'm not seeing anything with Andrae that titilates me, maybe he's a #5 who gets 20-25 points.

...

The 3rd is what I'm most happy about.

We traded a quarter and a nickel for three dimes.
