So is there a chance that his Andrae guy breaks out and maybe Chayka has some fancy stats to show that?

Otherwise I would have tried to get some more draft capital instead and package it with other things to try to get a more impact player.
The best kind of undervalued guys to bet on are ones who dominate easy minutes and have the skill/makeup to potentially be able to do more.

I've always thought he deserved more rope in Philly, but I also thought Dermott did here as well. At the very least Chayka added a bottom pair defenseman with strong breakout abilities, good defensive chops, and is able to consistently win his minutes. Those are the guys I like to bet on.

He has a .920 over 20 playoff games right now

It's a goalie. Someone could say something and he could have a decade of despair. I don't trust tenders, very few are consistent out there. I hope he is. I do but again, we don't have a proven tender that anyone under the sun would say, Leafs have xxxxx they are a threat to win it all.

Looks like both teams got what they needed. The flyers got goalie insurance as they have been needing this for years and the Leafs get a youngish defenseman that has the ability to move the puck plus a 3rd round pick in the hopes of drafting a full time NHL player for the future.

Change of scenery for all players involved can work out for both teams in the end.

Well you are not gonna know what you have if you don't give them opportunities

We have two guys that needs a long look, hidelby and AA.

We complain about not giving our young players not enough chances, well here it is

I have zero faith in Woll, he bails at the least opportune time. Always hurt, we already have Stolie for that.
I'd put a lot of money on the fact that we'll be dressing both Hildeby & AA together for a good run of games next year.

The fact that Philly is slotting him as their backup lets you know how much we overvalued him.

I don't know if he was overvalued, but it's as you said: injuries. He was also a bit streaky.

I wouldn't be surprised if they waive / try to give Stolarz away for free and run with Hildabeast and AA. Sink or swim.

Looks like Woll began his decade of despair after the Panthers series.

I think AA will/would want a path in the near future. Not that I know anything about his intentions - but I’d think he’s going to be motivated to not ride the bus much longer.

Call me crazy. I’d still move Stolarz (for next to nothing) and have these 3 goalies battle it out.

people forget woll has a history of depression and anxiety, he came up with a mystery injury before the biggest game of his career and was completely AWOL for months to start the following year, hes not someone who can be trusted in the biggest moments imo. hes a good kid and has some potential, but i doubt hes ever able to master being a starting goalie in this league physically OR mentally.

good luck brick woll!

It's so funny reading this board and twitter about this trade. For some reason everyone is fixated on Ersson as the return and is saying the leafs lost because of him.

Ersson was literally a thrown in and is the last piece they care about in this trade

The Pick, cap-space/flexibility and Andrae are the pieces before him

I watched the playoffs. He was OK.
Flyer fan here, Andrae is exactly as (1) his MoneyPuck profile and (2) his height/weight advertise.

He is undersized, a lot. But skilled. He is smart, makes puck decisions and moves the puck quite well, tries to use leverage and whatever else he has to play hard defense when required. But sometimes it just doesn't work. On the FLyers, the lack of size was enough to outweigh his stats...and it is absolutely wrapped up in the exact personnel they were using, where Drysdale is above ANdrae on the pecking order with the exact same profile (smaller puck-mover). But Drysdale had a great season. And things didn't fall Andrae's way.

Andrae is very useful, in a niche situation. Not Kimmo Timmonen useful as we used to wish about on the Flyers boards...but he could be somehow? If he gained some weight?

Paired with a physcial guy with intelligence to step across into Andrae's side only when needed, at smart times, and also able to allow him to be the puck-man? That's your diamond in the rough.

I'm a bit sad not to get to see both Andrae and Ersson prove they can really contribute...to the Flyers...at times, they have been awesome. But it's also very reasonable to move on in exchange for what the Leafs gave up. Having Woll as the starting back-up is a huge upgrade for the Flyers, and it could mean the difference between squeaking into the playoffs and finishing comfortably. And the cap space was a nothing-burger, if it wasn't Woll, it was gonna be somebody else, probably a lot older, or less accomplished. Briere did well for his club. Chayka...I don't think quite as well....but it is impossible to trade any goalie for anything truly useful, and he wanted to trade one apparently. SO be it.

Looking forward to seeing him at camp.

I also think people forget that Woll refused to play against Boston in game 7 and I think that was the beginning of the end of him in Toronto. I guarantee in the evaluations of which goalie to move, that was a big talking point to why people in the organization wanted to move on from him. Stolarz does get injured a lot but he’s a battler. You know he won’t cheat you for effort and he wants to play
Pretty sure he got injured when our D let a Bruin fall on him right at the end of game 6.
Dump Stolarz for future considerations
Can't make trades for future considerations.
Waive Stolarz
So waive a $4m guy in the first year of a four year deal to get $1.375 in cap relief. Even worse plan.
Does this mean Vinny Borgesi is no longer the future? Got a new 5'9 demon.
I saw him play in a regular season game and he looked decent. See where he's at in a year.
If you hit "ignore" for a couple of posters, it will likely shrink the number of pages in half.

I find it interesting that some posters feel obligated to make the same point over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over....
What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean? What do you mean?

Exactly. If I was to wager, we can count on Stolarz for 30-35 games at best, Hildeby for 30-35 games, and AA filling in for the rest.

I still can't believe that we played him in Boston mid-series and he played 2 games and got injured making a save.
