If it comes in under 9 and costs us a 3rd or lower or Robby/Maccelli then I am a happy camper.

The people who aren't happy? Meh, some people enjoy being upset.

EDIT* Now let's go get Hayton and Tuch! Muahahaha.

Dumb organization
For the love of god, can you tell us why ? Because he is gonna be overpaid ? Like who cares
Because he is not what need ? We need help eveywhere
Because he is might be a one year wonder ? Maybe, but other players got a top D/PP time, then have done nothing with it, he seized his chance. Can't fault the guy for that, can you ?

People hate this move because they love their darling Rielly make me really 🤬
The team before any player in my book

Maybe this is copium but:

A lot of you guys have been damaged by the COVID Cap Era when the primes of our best players were constrained by having a frozen cap. It's not a surprise that the teams that won during that period were low tax states (Tampa, Vegas and Florida) or had elite players on absurdly low contracts (Colorado having Mackinnon at $6 million and Makar on his ELC).

We are no longer in that era. The cap next year is $22 million more and the following year is already projected to be an additional $9 million more by the NHL. We're not judging this under the old cap, but under the new cap. $104 million, than $113.

First Andrae, now Raddysh... Give me an AAV under $9 million and one of Maccelli, Robertson or a 3rd round pick as compensation and I'll be excited about the direction of the off season!

This also serves to artificially inflate the value of Rielly and Carlo on the trade block because there will be even less quality defenseman available in free agency.

My guess is 7 x 9.5, which to me is a somewhat scary contract for a guy that just put up half of his career total points in a single season.....at the age of 30.

Agreed that it's scary, but with Toronto's cap flexibility (expected to get even better with a Rielly trade) and relative lack of significant trade assets, I think this is the type of controlled gamble Chayka pretty well has to make in a re-tool.

The Andrae trade and this one are aggressive attempts to fix the possession / breakout problems that afflict the blue line. At least the organization recognizes the issue and is trying to fix it!

We absolutely need to make these kind of bets. Yeah its risky, but the alternative is bleak at best. I like that we get ahead of the market 👍
Nice to ensure that you get some players signed to create a surplus before you make other moves.

Last thing you want is to trade everybody and then get stuck being unable to actually get any defensemen to replace them because they sign elsewhere.

Better not be a high price here to trade. Seems like this was gonna happen anyways come July 1. Cost savings for lower AAV shouldnt be worth that much. Something like 4th rounder.

Chayka said about the Woll trade,
it gives us flexibiliy, cap room and assets to make bigger trades
and so fast Chayka makes the trade now 😁

Who knows if the Chayka era is going to work out, but at least it’s more entertaining than the Treliving is having a nap era.
Exactly, I rather a GM who is bold in their plan wants to be reasonably aggressive than someone who sits back.

He said he’s going to reshape the d-core and he’s doing just that. Wasting no time. I’m glad he’s beat out the market, maybe Raddysh really wants to be here.

Not sure how trying to keep the Aav down on a big right hand right d who put up 70 points before he hits the market is dumb. But you keep hating old man.
a team like the lightning with one of the smartest front office & coach don’t want to retain the same 70 point right d, their leading point getter from the back end. The same team that has an aging Hedman & Mcdonagh & were decimated by injuries to their defensive group last year. 🚩

Except they did offer a contract, it just wasn’t enough $
