At least we got players with term.... but giving up Minten hurts... I think I'd rather have Minten than Laughton....

Honest question, has Toronto even won a trade with Boston? Florida adding Marchant make me think Carlo and Laughton won’t prove to be the difference……..

Marchand for me its a pretty risky trade.

Amaizing player for sure but he will stole a spot to pretty important florida player who had pretty high impact on the team.

Look similar to the claude giroux trade 3 years ago, the tarasenko/kane deal 2 year ago...

pretty incredible player but with more negative impact than bring a carlo where leafs had a clear need and taking spot to nobody or a laughton who taking a 3C spot than nobody was able to take in the line up.

Contenders only care about 1sts as trade capital and if we're picking up guys retained with a little bit of term, punting future 1sts away to give the team the best shot is absolutely a non issue.

What do you expect minten to be? Because at best he likely peaks as a defensive 3c
I don't what Minten will top out as, but he's only 20 and had plenty of time to develop. Would rather keep him than trade for a guy like Carlo who the Bruins aren't that high on these days. I just hope he finds his game and plays well for us because we're stuck with him for several years. Bruins are saying he's soft for a big guy and I thought that's what the Leafs were trying to get away from.

People were talking about Andrew Peeke a couple of years ago, maybe we should have went after him back then when he was traded to Boston for just a 3rd pick compared to trading 4 picks away to get Edmunson and Lyubushkin.

Leafs had a young center with size and they traded him away for Carlo who I guess we'll see what he does. Would rather have just traded picks only than trade Minten.

Minten and a 1st?!?! Brad wat the fk are you doing
Going all in....again....

The big difference is they have term and there has been constant pressure on the Leafs.

They could alleviate some of this pressure by not overpaying fools who dont have any bite. They will at least have these two for two seasons.

If you consider, Knies, McMann, Laughton, McCabe, Carlo, Benoit. These are players who go to the net, are tenacious and/or move bodies from the front of their own net. Tanev is positionally sound, eats pucks and shut down the opposition.

Domi and even Robertson of late, have shown a bit of edge. Not as much as they should, but they can if they are committed.

Their goalies are sound.

This is the latest and hopefully final litmus test for this teams core. If they don't get it done, this franchise which the world laughs at must shed the necessary cap space and build a team that can compete in the East.

at least carlo has some term, and is an actual needle mover(unlike laughton)i think its still lipstick on a pig this season, but the defense is set for a few years now i think and we can focus on JT and marner situation in the off season. they need a star forward that that excels in the post season that the team will actually follow. at least imo.
After going all in like this, if they crash in the first round again, Marner and Tavares won't be anywhere near next year's team.

I recall Anaheim saying Lindholm slipped as the team regressed. Got dealt Boston and was immediately impressive.

D-men success can really be impacted by the team

They're saying he's gone soft after the concussions...let's hope it had more to do with Boston not being good overall this year. We may be getting a younger Hainsey here...which at least we know works with Morgan.

Looks like they kept their best prospect and gave up a couple of very late 1sts. Given the prices this deadline I think Tre did fine. Still not sure if Laughton will be a better center than Domi but this is a new club with new team mates so he is has a chance for a different result. Carlo I like and I didn't think he was even worth hoping for. The club is immediately harder to play against but they sink or swim on whether the same 4 guys can do more than the last 6 years.

A healthy Marchant will be TNT for the Panthers, they’re making the cup final for ghe east, no doubt about it……

More 1st Rounders spent on a core that never gets it done.

One big difference is that I said if he goes long yardage, they need to have term. In this case both players do and at a good AAV.

I also said that he cannot give up Cowan. Even if he is traded someday, his value will be higher at that point I'm sure.

Now Leafs will have at least two cracks with the right types of players, and, if they have any dignity for themselves of the fans. they can move on from this core in the offseason if and when they fail to make the Finals.

They needed to get a big D Man and a fiesty 3rd line center and he did so. They have enough NHL ready depth that they can ensure injuries in all positions. That's a bonus.

No one we would have drafted will have an impact anytime soon. at least we are getting players with term. Our defense is set.. now, you can use the money to add forwards this off season.

I hate giving up the picks but this is the core we have and you have to live and die by them. The message is clear, it’s on them now

Like it. Minten was fine but not a high end talent that I saw and a first at the end is just magic beans. Glad we kept Cowan, indifferent about Danford.
Carlo hopefully will match with Rielly for several years. Pushes OEL to third pairing where he belongs.
Clearing out cap on Timmins and Dewar for picks makes sense, Timmins sooooo frustrating.

Exactly this.

They've long since run out of excuses. Either carry us in the playoffs or get the frick out of here because we're tired of this.

In banking terms this us called kiting…….
