No one we would have drafted will have an impact anytime soon. at least we are getting players with term. Our defense is set.. now, you can use the money to add forwards this off season.

I hate giving up the picks but this is the core we have and you have to live and die by them. The message is clear, it’s on them now
Yes, this only works if the team sheds the necessary cap space.

This offseason they have the opportunity as it is forced upon them.

What will they do? Will keep the Crown Corporation together or will they bring in the hungry, small/medium business type employees

Going all in....again....

The big difference is they have term and there has been constant pressure on the Leafs.

They could alleviate some of this pressure by not overpaying fools. They will at least have these two for two seasons.

If you consider, Knies, McMann, Laughton, McCabe, Carlo, Benoit. These are players who go to the net, are tenacious and/or move bodies from the front of their own net. Tanev is positionally sound, eats pucks and shut down the opposition.

Domi and even Robertson of late, have shown a bit of edge. Not as much as they should, but they can if they are committed.

Their goalies are sound.

This is the latest and hopefully final litmus test for this teams core. If they don't get it done, this franchise which the world laughs at must shed the necessary cap space and build a team that can compete in the East.
Exactly. The Leafs gave up a lot for two players, but I really like the acquisition along with the ones that have come along this past summer.

I'm actually quite bullish on this team in the playoffs. There's a good chance that they could still bow out in the 1st round just because of how stacked Tampa and Florida are lol - but I'm confident that they'll at least get half-decent goaltending and go down swinging to the very end this time around. That in itself is worth a couple of 1st rounders in the mid-20s and a young 3C prospect.

they got guys that addressed needs, fit age wise , with term and didn't give up their top asset. good day other then how much better Panthers, Stars, Jets got but excited otherwise

Feel like all the important positions on this team are set for the next 3 playoff runs. We have a legit goalie tandem and depth. 3 great centers, and a legit top 4.

Assuking marner signs, this is the group we have, like it or not.

Minten seems like a great kid and my guess is he puts together a solid NHL career but he was never going to move the needle during this cores run.

Overall I'm fine with seeing him go.

At least we got players with term.... but giving up Minten hurts... I think I'd rather have Minten than Laughton....
I wouldn't. Laughton is a big body who immediately fills our 3C hole.

Our core is in win now mode, Minten may be a 2-3C in 5 years, he's of no use to us then. We're trying to go for it now.

Last year 2024 playoffs

Brandon Carlo playoffs 3 goals 1 assist 4 points.
vs.
Mitch Marner playoffs 1 goal 2 assists 3 points.

Defensive Dman Brandon Carlo = 3 playoff goals in 17 games as Bruins eliminated Leafs in round #1.
vs
Marner 1 goal + Matthews 1 goal + Tavares 1 playoff goal = 3 goals combined in 19 games combined.

Defense win Championships :)

I don’t really know what us fans were hoping for?
Wanted upgrades without fixing up assets?
We clearly upgraded in key spots, get to put everyone in their best roles/places

With make team better overall by allot and hopefully playoff ready

Now it’s up to coach and the stars to show up

Man, its one thing needing to upgrade, its another thing trading away 2 of your top 5 prospects, two firsts, WHILE not having one this year for a 3c and 4-5 Dman.

Treliving is definitely a terrible trade maker, we know this and should't be surprised.

I personally think Minten was the kind of player we will need for out top 9 in 2 years, and had some skills that could make him a solid 40-60 point player under the proper coaching.

Overall our team IS better, but at what cost....

What worries me for Toronto is the Bruins on their boards are celebrating this trade after complaining about Carlo's decrease in play all year long.
He is a + D Man on a team that has given up 30 more goals than they have scored. I'd say he probably wasn't the glaring problem.
