I would have traded Cowan before Minten but I'm still not convinced Minten is gonna seriously move the needle in these crucial next 2-3 years.

A little wary of Carlo's injuries especially his concussions but he's the same age as Matthews and is a big but not super physical right shooting D with a good stick. I also love him at 3.5 even if he only plays 60-65 games a year.

He will definitely help in these again crucial next 2-3.

Edit: And it's pretty clear the Timmins trade was made because he was in competition with Myers: both are tall, rangy RHD with good shots who never really lived up, and the brass liked the skating and physical play of Myers more than the playmaking of Timmins, and I think they made the right choice. Myers also makes less and has more control.

Dewar, sadly, just doesn't have a place when we already have Kampf, with the return of Jarnkrok and the addition of Laughton.

Barkov and Reinhart don't have bite and same thing with Verhaeghe. They're good but not exactly gritty. The three guys are Tkachuk (who's hurt), Bennett and Marchand, but he's old now and never drops the gloves, he really shouldn't be someone anyone is afraid of.

The last time we played FLA in the playoffs we didn't have Knies (got hurt and was 19), Tanev, McMann, Domi, Laughton, Carlo, OEL. I think we'll be ok.

Btw, Florida's core is older than ours. Barkov, Bennett, Verhaeghe, Reinhart vs Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly.
Whole heap of copium going on here.

No more excuses for Rielly, if Morgan can't get it together paired with Carlo then it's safe to say he's cooked.

I doubt this moves the needle for Rielly. Ideally, Mo's next defense partner should be determined by his next NHL club.

Price was high, but this is a big time asset that we have for three playoff runs at 3.5 million. Hard not to love this addition.

Must give Treliving credit, looks like the defence might actually become the strength of the team (provided Carlo meshes well and settles down Rielly).

For anyone thinking Carlo is physical, he is very soft for his size. Although he’s solid defensively, great on the PK and clearing the front of the net.

Will be a solid partner for Reilly, if not the best he’s ever had
I sit second row behind net lined up with post Bruins defend periods 1 & 3 and have probably seen 1500-2000 live NHL games, am part Neanderthal when it comes to hockey and still have old tapes of Tiger Williams & Wendel Clarke. So don’t listen to that BS Carlo is soft - he’s not cross checking everyone like Brad McCrimmoh or Behn Wilson but he’s plenty active and physical

He’s a good B player and an A human

I wish him all the best and hope he lives up to your expectations

You can deem this is a slight overpayment for sure but he's a Big, Strong, Right-handed Top 4 Defenseman in his prime locked up at a very reasonable AAV for the next few years.

This is the type of players you slightly overpay for

This is not an overpayment for what you said. He has resale value if need be. This was actually an impressive move

The price was not that high...

A prospect who probably gonna be a good 3C and a low % to become a 2C... and a pick who giving you like 25 % to get an NHLer in 4-5 years+

and you get a pretty solid top 4 dman under 3,5M for at least 3 years

Treliving has revamped our D spectacularly in the past 12 months. Well done.

I feel a thousands times more confident in Tanev, OEL, and Carlo then I do in Sandin, Liljegren, and Timmins.

Definitely deserves a bunch of credit for the additions to it. McCabe was already here but his extension is also very good.

I hope it proves to be the difference.

Minten has never impressed me. He’s a safe honest player who will never move the needle.

Carlo is a big body right handed shot the leafs have sorely missed for years. Hits blocks are his game. Sign me up

I liked Minten quite a bit, but that's more of a sunk cost feeling in him being one of our guys then anything else. I think he'll be a good 3c who can spot duty on the 2nd line moving forward. He was a good pick.

I'm not upset he was moved in this deal, however.

This dude is awful softest player in the league. Addition by subtraction for us.

I do like Torontos chances overall this year avoid your bogey teams get a different path etc good squad elite at the top he doesn't change that for you so GL. Hell probably actually give a shit after the trade too.
