Minten maybe becomes less needed with Laughton here. And that’s basically what Minten will end up being similar to.

I didn’t realize Carlo plays a small game from what people are saying. I don’t know how your 6’5” and you don’t take advantage of that.

Laughton was way better in the OHL and AHL than Minten. If Minten turns out to be as good as Laughton I'd be shocked.

Just looked at the numbers for our defenseman vs Florida's ooouf it's looking good!!

This includes all 7-defenseman for both teams, and i gave Hakanpaa the same numbers he had last-season.

Only flaw is Florida's 35-Goals
vs Toronto 18.....but in all honesty the numbers so small, like the Pathers basically average 0.5-Goals per game from there defense, in a 7-game series that's 3.5-goals vs our defense at 1.750-goals. The difference maker here is we almost double them in blocks and have more hits.

Wish the details were known by now but whatever. We have an idea of what the cost was and I’m fine with it.

The biggest thing is that we have a legitimate top four defence core. We should be comfortable with either McCabe-Tanev or Rielly-Carlo on the ice. Both pairs capable of playing 20+ minutes. And OEL can feast against easier matchups on the bottom pair and play on his dominant side.

Really tidy business, especially with Carlo still signed and being only in his late twenties. Our D-Corps is set for the foreseeable future.

Out of pure curiosity does Fla have the puck more or less than we do?

Too bad our offense dries up in the playoffs.

The core better have found some courage to man up and get bruised and take the beating required to make a worthwhile playoff run because they’ve always been the big issue.

Similar deal to the McCabe one (only a RHD). Key is getting the player with term. Leafs should be doing more of this if they were going to move assets (they've had years of mercenary types). Can't argue the method. I imagine Carlo will be paired with Reilly on the 2nd pair. Minten's days were numbered when they acquired Laughton. Retention

at least carlo has some term, and is an actual needle mover(unlike laughton)i think its still lipstick on a pig this season, but the defense is set for a few years now i think and we can focus on JT and marner situation in the off season. they need a star forward that that excels in the post season that the team will actually follow. at least imo.
I think people are seriously underestimating how far a solid d can take you.

Our top 4 is now among the best.

With Stolie being lights out this team could do some damage.

How many year did we waiting to get good RHD? Now we've got 2 pretty good top 4 for couple of years. The futur is now
Tanev is good. Remains to be seen if Carlo will be too and if that's enough to push the Leafs further in the playoffs than they've been during the Matthews era. People complained about Dubas giving away the future when he traded a bunch of assets to get O'Reilly, McCabe, Schenn etc. and it only netted us a single playoff round win. Now Brad has traded away two 1st picks and two prospects that were looking at least pretty decent for a OK 3C and a hopefully pretty good Dman.

Lets see if it helps much this time around when we sent out a bunch of assets to 'go for it' with the same core who hasn't done all that much for so many years in the playoffs.

Stunning to think that Treliving has acquired a player with term from such a long-term rival of ours. The price paid was unfortunately steep, but a past criticism of deadline deals was giving up a 1st and/or trading for a rental. Thankful that at least both of those things didn't end up being true today.

I think it’ll be different this season for 2 reasons

A) Secondary scoring beyond the core 4. Knies, McMann, Domi, Robertson and Laughton are all capable of providing some offense in a bottom 6 or top 6 role.

B) Teams would shell against Toronto in the playoffs to neutralize their offense knowing that their weak D and G would eventually break. This team is much better in both of those areas now so teams can’t game plan to out defense us.
