And carlo is 28 and was playing in Boston top 4 since he's 20 and made a huge difference in probably the best defensive team last decade.

Carlo is not a sexy player but treliving traded today for grit and caracter. Player who understand what they can do to help the team and who will do it...

Carlo doing everything right in the defensive end. Clear the front of the net to help goalie, an amaizing penalty killer so don't need to play with timmins/ myers on PK anymore and will put everyone on the right chair.

Leafs moved from 0 RHD of quality ---> pretty solid shutdown RHD. Like Tanev signing, it was not the sexiest move but extremely useful and expect the same exact thing with Carlo
Timmins and Myers pk'ing in a game 7 is the stuff nightmares are made of. Picking up 2 solid pk'ers isn't glamorous but could be the difference in a series.

I think Boston could be retaining a significant amount of Carlo's salary for this year and the next two hence the high price of Minton awhind a first, while Pittsburgh retains another chunk in exchange for Dewar and Timmins. Could be as much as 75% retention (Boston retaining 50%, Pittsburgh 25%)

With NJ losing J Hughes, Carolina having to move Ranta, the Caps are the biggest threat out of the Metro. The road to the SC goes through Florida. It will not be easy to knock off both.
The leafs will only have to beat one of them, and they have pretty easily handled Tampa over the past couple of years.

Not if the Leafs finish 2nd/3rd. And Vasi is back on form.

He was very shaky last time the Leafs played the Bolts in the post-season and even though Tampa was coming off 3 straight final appearances and clearly gassed Toronto still needed OT in game 6 to beat them.

Don't delude yourself, both FL teams will be tough outs and there's a very good chance we will have to beat both.

The team needed a depth defenseman. I didn't expect giving up a 1st and a prospect for it though. Not sure what to say. I hope Tanev comes back soon. If so, this might be the best d-core they've had in awhile. Honestly, I have no opinion. Dunno what to think. We've been burned many times giving up 1sts at the deadline.

This Tampa team is playing much better than the Tampa teams that have lost to the Leafs this year. Your making a huge assumption if you think they will only have to play one of them. They are in tough the next few games and could find themselves in 3rd by the end of next week.

Leafs also believed that guys like Mason Marchment and Trevor Moore didn't have much more offensive upside than what they showed in their few games with the team and it turned out that they did have more to give when they were given larger roles.

Minten played 19 games with the Leafs for barely 12 mins a game mostly with guys who aren't exactly offensive juggernauts. I guess we'll see if he has more to give when someday he's given a bigger role with better players.

As for Carlo I'm hoping that he'll be great for the Leafs, but its kinda hard to be excited when Bruins fans aren't sad at all to see him traded.
Bruins fans are pretty sour on their entire team. They're going to miss the playoffs, pretty normal to feel your players suck. If they're saying that Carlo isn't a top 4 dman, then they're being unrealistic.

As for Minten, he's got 6 goals and 7 assists in 26 games with the Marlies. In addition, he has a -10 with a good Marlie team. If you're waiting from him to turn into anything more than a 3C you'll be waiting a long time.

I'm fine with getting a player like Carlo if he's at his best, but that's the thing when it seems like he hasn't been at his best for a while. Maybe he'll be good again with a change of scenery, but I'm not exactly feeling reassured and full of optimism when few Bruins fans are sad to see him go and were hoping Sweeney would trade him than keep him.

Our entire D Core is locked up for at LEAST the next 2 years. Very solid. Now add some serious forwards in the off season. Marchand may likely just be a rental

That florida team is going to annihilate the east again, focus on next year.
