It's so bizarre the old moo-cow slab'o'beef in the back end is the one standing up for his teammates all the time.

They're better of with him on the ice than the 6'2" pile of stink Reaves was every night. I didn't even know they could pile shit that high. Seeing Giordano step up like that is what real leadership looks like.

Not whatever Tavares was doing on the bench when Liljegren got hurt.

Fifteen games into the season and Kampf has more goals than Domi. Put your hand up if you saw that one coming. Robertson has two goals already in only four games played.

Speaking of Robertson...

I'm not convinced he makes it out of the season alive. I'm not sure what the problem is. Lack of on ice awareness, can't skate with his head up, I don't know.

But that guy has head case written all over him.

Go Leafs Go!!!
Domi gets the benefit of the doubt in my eyes. He was not put in a position for success with the shitty line construction keefe was up to. Now he has Robertson and Jarnkrok, and there is some actual speed and chemistry now.

In all the Nylander talk, Tavares looked incredible last night and has had a great start to the season. He still looks like a legitimate #1 center, great to see.

As long as he isn't carrying the puck, he and Nylander can work together.

On the Nylander goal, he was in the slot and was the pivot guy. Nylander had just made a great pass that wasn't finished but the puck ended up on Tavares stick as Nylander circled the zone and picked up the pivot pass. Bit of luck on the goal, kind of like the Knies goal, their goalie was going out and left the gap behind himself.

Love the game from the team yesterday. The response on the two hits on Kampf and Robertson with Gio and Domi dropping the glove’s immediately and setting the tone that we won’t be taken advantage of was beautiful. Completely changed the game and the Leafs took over. If they play like this and get the goaltending like we got yesterday the Leafs will become a problem for the league. Still have work ahead of them to get better but a great performance from the Blue and White

Not sure who initiated the rataliation, I don't think coach can, but it was a look at the bigger picture situation.

Small picture - pk goal against
Big picture - win the game
Even more important than winning, is that for once we stood up for each other instead of looking the other way.

Exactly. People can whine about allowing PP opportunities, but there's other benefits to standing up for each other that can't be measured with stats.

We've been the wimpiest team in the league for years. I'm not convinced that that's all over now and we will be a completely different going forward, but last night was most definitely a very positive first step in the right direction. It helps to wash a way at least a little bit of the disgust I felt after the Boston game and gives me a modicum of hope for the future. It also makes me sad to think about how much these guys could have accomplished if they played with more intestinal fortitude over the last 6 years or so, so many years down the the drain already with this core and this might be the last season with Nylander ... those wasted years are never coming back, they're gone for good.

So they don't play until Friday? I have no memory these days, do teams get a by-week or something now? That's a long stretch.

Edit: NVM, forgot about the Sweden thing. Makes sense to get adjusted. Anyone that's traveled to Europe though knows the jet lag coming back is infinitely worse. I hope they get a break then too.

We only play 3 games in the next 2 weeks. I really wish we weren’t doing this Sweden thing. We don’t play another evening game (the most conducive to my schedule for watching) until November 25th which is just dumb imo

Maybe they had a late night and players don’t play guilty anymore. They played very slow and I doubt that was the game plan against the Leafs. Most want to play faster and take advantage.
I hope you're not implying that's why they lost. The Leafs played with their best two players displaying a disappearing act you'd likely see on the Vegas strip and 6 PP advantages to 2. Yet they perservered and won despite Demko's terrific goaltending. Samsonov didn't have to make a big high danger save all night whereas Demko made some sublime saves.

I couldn’t give two shits about giving up a couple PP’s to change the mindset. Looking at the big picture it proved that fighting back is nothing but a positive and the scoreboard at the end of the night reflected that cause it gave the team confidence. GLG

Sammy is back, plan the parade! Also Klinger not getting burned, Domi being a little bit Domi, and Robertson and Gregor on the score sheet. A really good night for a back to back against a club who has been on fire. Lots of positives for a game when M and M couldn't find the net. Too bad they have 6 days and jet lag to erase the momentum but you can't have it all.

It can also spark your team in spots when the overall team energy is low like back to back games or when playing an inferior opponent.

The goal should always be to become as balanced as possible, so that no matter which way the game turns (high scoring, low scoring, physical, overtime), your roster has the ability to adapt and thrive in that environment.

And if we maintain that mindset, it will send a message to the rest of the league that teams can no longer take liberties with our players without paying a price.

Nice to see the team stick up for each other. Loved the fighting. Really helped us get the 2 points. Hopefully they fight more often in the future.

Great game to watch last night at Scotia .. team toughness sticking up for each other carried team to victory .. completely unexpected to see these attributes from this squad .. most folks on here underestimate da value of TEAM .. it does not always work but most of time "taking one for TEAM" or "wasting one every once in a while" works as a TEAM motivator .. it will take a lot more but it was a great starting point .. fights are not about "winning" they are more about "showing up" .. da more guys who show up then da skill guys feel safer on ice and can do their thing .. i bet Canucks were shocked da Leafs decided to "show up" last night .. and da message will get around da league quickly .. even da media types will change their tune if it occurs next time too

Da sh*tting on Sammy stuff needs to STOP .. our tenders have issues because we have a sub NHL defense .. pure and simple .. we give up too many screened and tipped shots on net .. once our D gets FIXED we will have a shot .. Sammy is fine and Woll is a big game tender who can't be beat 1 on 1 when it counts .. our forwards were better last night with Reaves out no doubt .. i still like having Reaves on team but i was very disappointed in him in Beantown and if he pulls another Beantown then he might hve to go down to minors to learn his lesson

It is and it should fix itself.

A modern power forward on the left side with Matthews and Mitch or even JT, what a time to be alive.
It's just what the doctor ordered for those two. A big fast puck retrieval guy a la Hyman, difference is, with Buster the Leafs had to wait for his goal scoring to develop. Young Mr. Knies already knows how.
This is absolutely the case, his usage tells the entire story. Keefe has his warts but certainly understands defensive hockey and play-driving, he's not as dumb as many make him out to be.
I've said this all along when it comes to Shelly. He has a strong base of hockey knowledge, he just needed a team to follow him and not a bunch of individuals who have run to the manager to complain when he dressed them down for lackluster performances, hopefully those days are gone forever, over a long time ago!
Remind me to never fight Mark Giordano.
The good news is, if you ever did, you'd probably never ever go back.
In all the Nylander talk, Tavares looked incredible last night and has had a great start to the season. He still looks like a legitimate #1 center, great to see.
JT had a real good night, I don't think he's looked so good on his skates since early in his career. The guy is still a bull along the boards, not many can take a puck away from him. That little pass to Nylander was poetry, a real work of art, a quick look and right on to Nylanders tape.

The NHL is sending their most lucrative property, the team that draws the most eyeballs to screens, the team whose games generally sell out when they're the visitor in any NA rink over to Sweden.

It's a nice trip for the Bud's and their wives, but the timing of this trip from a marketing standpoint is just so NHL and the BettMan.
