How did we do today guys? The score board and underlying numbers suggest we played well.

I don't think we were as good as the last game but it was a good solid professional performance and we never looked like losing

With the premise that Vancouver is atrocious

I can critique what I want on our end - everybody was tremendous.

But those Canucks...they're like an off the rack build of what we have.

At least the Oilers have McDavid and Draisaitl, and the Jets have a nasty top six, and the Habs have a solid commitment of lunchpail guys.

But the Canucks?

Their captain is a Tavares lite lite.

Their top center is a Mitch who shoots better but can't pass as good or think the game as quick and can be knocked over with a feather.

Their number one D is a Marc Andre Bergeron retread. What good is a guy who plays 24 minutes a game and gets 1-1-2 if he finishes - 1 as you lose 6-3?

Boeser is a slightly better Kessel - that's Kessel now, not Kessel 2011-12.

Hoglander is at absolute best a Kadri.

Oh and their cap is f***ed.

If it wasn't, they should have been on Ekblad when he was rumored to be available and PLD, that would have helped them immensely.

Awful, terrible team build.

I've said it before but the archives cleared it out, but I think their hubris in the past has brought them a curse from the hockey gods.

I'd love to go 9-0-0, but 6-1-2 would satisfy.

They're a pillow soft team with few players willing to compete. Zero forecheck.

Defensively they're a tire fire with mediocre goaltending.

Trades are necessary with the nucks.

What does this all mean? I don't understand what all that is short off sorry :)

It means that defensively they have been getting completely caved in when he is on the ice at 5v5 - 38.07 shots against per 60 minutes, despite the Leafs' not giving up a ton of shots against this year so far (26.3/60) and Lehtonen being deployed in a sheltered offensive role. Also there are 16.92 high danger chances against per 60 with him on the ice. That is very high. The PDO of 1.099 is a combination of on-ice shooting percentage and on-ice save-percentage and it means that Lehtonen has been on the ice with unsustainably high puck luck (such as the 963 save percentage).

Hyman Matthews Marner
Nylander Tavares Simmonds
Mikheyev Kerfoot _____
______ Spezza Boyd

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Holl
Lehtonen Bogosian
Dermott Sandin

Andersen
Campbell

Only two spots up for grabs on this team...imo
Jumbo and Robertson.

Not enough cap space for 22 of them, though.

Man the Canucks are in a tough spot

Eriksson makes 6 million, Myers makes 6 million, Beagle makes 3 mill, Roussel makes 3, Luongo is 3 million

These guys have 21 million in dead cap while we have 22 mill in Matthews/Marner lol
Leafs were there not to long ago. Benning needs to use buyouts or the cap trade route.

There is zero chance we are trading Nylander for Bennett unless he comes with 2x1st.

What I would like to see is something around Kerfoot for Bennett with maybe Dermott and a pick coming our way. Really like what Lehtonen brings and Dermott will be pushed out by Sandin next year anyway.

HYMAN MATTHEWS MARNER
SIMMONDS JT NYLANDER
THORTON BENNETT MIKHEYEV
ROBERTSON SPEZZA BOYD
VESEY

RIELLY BRODIE
MUZZIN HOLL
LEHTONEN BOGO
SANDIN

These last 2 games have been so fun to watch. I can’t remember this core group ever playing so confident. They look like they are finally having fun. And it is showing in their play. These past 2 games have been maybe the best back to back games I’ve seen this group play in a couple years.

Great game, I loved what I saw. I feel bad for Holtby though. If you watch his post game it looks like we broke him.

Loving what I’m seeing from this group so far this year. Matthews is just something else, he’s blossoming into a complete hockey player that really wants to win. Dominant is the only way to describe his play so far this year

He's really putting it together and giving it effort every shift/possession. I haven't felt this good about him since his first year.

Another dominant game. :thumbu:

Matthews and Marner are just magic.
Simmonds has been a great add. His best game so far. Hope he's okay.
Lehtonen looked better. Much more comfortable.

I wouldn't mind seeing Vesey and Simmonds (if he's a little banged up) taking a night off so we can see a few more bubble guys in the lineup. We're still unclear as to how the bottom 6 is going to shake out and we didn't get a pre-season so why not try it in games against Vancouver?

I wonder if Thornton and Robertson are doing a lot of practice drills together during the time off. It would be great to see them come back from injury and hit the ground running on the same line with a little chemistry built up already.

Did this go in?

It looks like it bounced of the post, the cross bar and out.
