They're a pillow soft team with few players willing to compete. Zero forecheck.

Defensively they're a tire fire with mediocre goaltending.

Trades are necessary with the nucks.
I would even consider a scorched earth approach or something beyond a retool. Something seems very wrong with that team. Zero team chemistry. Shocking how polite they were after getting destroyed 2 times in a row. Demoralized and apathetic. The Horachek Leafs is a good comparison.

I wonder who gets Owen Power this year? That guy is a monster.

Not gonna lie, as much as I love beating up shitty Canadian teams and pissing off their annoying fanbases, I do wonder if it would be better for the Leafs to be playing in a harder division. There's the saying 'iron sharpens iron' and I think this team would learn more from playing against the Boston and TBs of the league rather than Ottawa/Vancouver/Edmonton/Calgary a whole bunch of times. Oh well, hopefully they continue to take advantage of these matchups.

This core has has 4 years at least to learn against Boston and Tampa.

They need to learn to win in the playoffs and if beating up on a lesser team to get a playoff round win I'll take it.

Playing Vancouver isn't even fun at this point. They need to fire Green. Their D play even strength like its a penalty kill

I can't believe Myers got a long term contract at 6M, when he torpedoed after his rookie season into a liability.
I agree. I much rather play a tougher close game. The leafs need to be pushed.

I hope Simmonds is OK he's been great losing him would suck
He's a very important part of the team. Watching him and Hyman muck around really puts in mind the Lightning of last year. Not that you have to copy the champ after every run, but if they could land a couple more Simmonds like the Lightning did at the deadline, you're going to have a team you can go to war with. The key is to not remove the skill, for example a guy like Travis Boyd is a Dubas special money puck type. Insulate the skill with the mucker and their is enough top end talent coming into their primes to get it done.

Our 1st line is lights out but I'm starting to get nervous about the lack of scoring from the 3rd line. This line has been ice cold, even against the sloppy defence of the Nucks which has given up 13 goals in 2 games.

Kerfoot wasn't good last season offensively, so not a shock that his offensive blackhole streak continues. Veasey doesn't provide much offense either given his previous seasons production. Soup had a good streak going last season before the pandemic hit and he was injured. He's fast on his feet, but not very gifted offensively. Don't expect much to change from them anytime soon. This is what they provide... little offense, that's not going to ever change considering their production careers.

The Good: It used to be when watching the Leafs, win or lose, there would be several times during games that you'd say to yourself about a player on the opposition, "geez I'd love to have that guy on the Leafs!" Haven't had that thought cross my mind too much this year(Edmonton excepted) because who doesn't want McJeebuzz.

The Bad: the Canucks team game is nonexistent, the Canadiens made them look silly too, are they really that bad? Tyler Myers 3 more years at 6m

The Ugly: Holtby's freak-out, I don't care how many cups, vezina's or whatever's you have, you don't EVER, EVER, EVER show up your team-mates in public, you save that for the room. If he starts on Monday and they hang him out to dry again, don't feel bad because he's brought it on himself.

It would be interesting seeing them play Boston, Tampa, Colorado or the Blues and get a real measure of who they really are against the other elite teams in the league.

Auston for Hart and/or the Rocket, Lady Byng, Mitch for Hart and/or the Ross, Lady Byng, either one for the Lindsay

those things are a real possibility if they maintain these levels of play!

it's a dark horse but Justin Holl getting some Norris votes, is he kind of like the Hyman of the Dcorps. A guy who received nothing but derision from LeaFland and is now becoming a fan fave, IRONY!

Vancouver is no match for the Leafs and getting dominated as expected and predicted.

This sets up a 3 game sweep potential here and burying the Nucks near the bottom of the leagues standings.

With 4 of the 6 Leaf opponents in the CDN div all playing .500 or below this new Covid div alignment is going allow the Leafs on cruise control to make the playoffs this year.

Matthews is going to score 50 goals perhaps even in a shortened season at this pace and against this level of competition and win the Rocket Richard this season. :win:

Holtby: You completely gave up on that backcheck.

JT Miller:

Good game! Now, let's get Jumbo healthy, move Kerfoot in a deal for Bennett (for a fresh start and a little bit more jam), open a little bit of cap space in the process to help with a deadline add, and make a run here as we get healthy.

Hyman / Matthews / Marner
Nylander/ Tavares / Simmonds
Bennett / Thornton / Mikheyev
Boyd or Robertson / Spezza / Vesey or Petan

Reilly / Brodie
Muzzin / Holl
Lehtonen / Bogosian
Dermott

I love the look of those lines and everything they bring to the table. I think Bennett would be just as effective on the 1st powerplay unit as Kerfoot and possibly brings more to the table 5 on 5, while saving Toronto a little bit of money.

It appears the next big line of attack on the Leafs is going to be a "weak division" argument.
But they're total shit for not winning a playoff series having to beat a top-5 team in the league in the 1st round.

Never forget how adamant you were before the season that the Leafs would struggle in this division

You didn't predict shit buddy..
