If Leafs let in 5 less PP GA this season everything looks good. ie. Freddy's SV% and the PK.

Leafs just need to fix the PK and we good so far.

But he passed it to no one himself. Why he was upset with his teammates? Puzzling...
I think he was more so pissed at the bounce the puck took, so maybe pissed at himself.

Or pissed no one was getting back as well...

Nothing but good things from this team since the first couple iffy losses to OTT/MTL that, admittedly, looked reminiscent of the bleak .500 play post-new coach bump from last season.

Simmonds showing he can hang on the 2nd line is a great sign and gives Keefe options down the stretch if the top 6 starts to sputter when play gets tighter/more physical.

Boyd should stick. RHS for draws on his strong side and has generated some high-danger chances in every game he's played while bringing energy and defensive competence. Someone Brooks should be watching and emulating moving forward. Shrewd pickup for cheap.

Hoping that Thornton is used in a bottom six role when healthy because these lines are cooking and developing chemistry.

This probably gets skipped over. However I was red and blue before the season started about defence, and depth.

Simmonds was playing injured hockey for like 2 years, i knew he would be solid. I said our defense would be about 15th/middle of the pack(looks better then that). And that our depth was good. And even if it wasn't, depth can be managed. Like we are swapping players like crazy to make things fit.

Not gonna lie, as much as I love beating up shitty Canadian teams and pissing off their annoying fanbases, I do wonder if it would be better for the Leafs to be playing in a harder division. There's the saying 'iron sharpens iron' and I think this team would learn more from playing against the Boston and TBs of the league rather than Ottawa/Vancouver/Edmonton/Calgary a whole bunch of times. Oh well, hopefully they continue to take advantage of these matchups.

" That Matthews reaction says it all. They are rooting for each other"

A great call after the Simmonds goal. I hope it puts to bed the narrative that the Leafs are full of players who are selfish, and care about padding stats inatead of the team. It never was true.
Regardless what people may think of Keefe it’s clear as day how much of an impact he’s had on our team since joining us. Players look engaged and they tightened up defensively. They look like they actually enjoy playing under Keefe. Even with arguable off years so far from our #1 and #3 (Rielly and Muzzin) and shaky goaltending we have a 9-2-1 record. I know we say this all the time and it might not be true but this year genuinely feels different

After losing to a borderline playoff team like the CBJ last season, I'd still say the Leafs still needs to prove that they can beat a team like the Edmonton Oilers or the Calgary Flames in a 7 game series as they should, cant look past these teams.

Also, Montreal actually looks legit this season, their team is 3rd in 5 vs 5, xGA/60 (Leafs are 21st in comparison) and that is with them playing in this highly offensive north division. I definitely wont associate them with elite teams like the Caps, Boston or TB but I think their comparable to very good teams like the Islanders and the Hurricanes were during these previous couple of seasons, Wednesday cant come fast enough.

Aside from the Obvious.

Liked Lehtonen, Boyd and Simmonds (he may be part of the obvious, pretty soon)

Enjoyed watching Tavares go coast to coast that one time - this is the D you can look fast against I guess.

Feels different because we don't have Tampa and Boston smothering us. The Leafs have been a very good team for almost 4 seasons now but we were stuck behind 2 absolute elite teams that gave us no breathing room. As the other poster said about wanting to be in a division with tougher teams, we've been doing that for 4 years since Auston came into the league and as much as it's good for their development and it obviously has turned them into monsters in this joke of a division, it's sometimes nice to actually see the fruit of your labor. Funny enough, however, Tampa and Boston are going to rout their divisions still, and both the Habs and Panthers look like they're going to be in on the party as well. So even if we handle the North, on the overall picture we might still end up behind Boston and Tampa. :banghead::banghead:

Matthews is on another level this year and with Marner buzzing again they are so deadly.

Simmonds is also looking like his older self too, hope he’s ok.

A lot to like out of tonight, especially that strong third to put the game away early.
Respectfully disagree with the bolded. Simmonds is looking like his younger self.

Solid game by us.
Our PK still needs improvement but a good performance by the boys. Then again, we should win against a team that has been piss poor all season long, so i expect nothing less than dubs against the Canucks.
Hope that Simmonds isn´t injured and was taken out just for precaution, he´s been great for us.

Is that you, Mike?
Imagine if Babs was still coaching this team. Matthews and Marner still wouldn’t be weaving magic on the same line cause uhhhh they have to drive their own line. Marincin would still be the 6th defenceman cause uhhh he has a long stick. The core would still be unhappy cause uhhh he’d have them rating their teammates on who eats the most at post game meals. Marleau would still be on the top line cause uhhh he’s a gud pro. So many idiotic beliefs.

Canucks pretty much gave up after the 3rd goal. Petan not as noticable this game but Boyd continues to be noticable as #4C. Must be too many chefs because the Soup seems to have been spolied.
