Liljegren looked like absolute garbage today. I’m not sure what people see in him

For me he looked very good.

The one play where he didn't look too good Muzzen got caught, Lilly had to come over onto the left side and play D with a forward. He got beat to the outside because he had to start from the right side, which is his side.

I feel he made several smart break-out passes in last night's game and played a good defensive game as well.

Just noticed the user name.... not the first time I disagree with you LOL

Was really hoping the Leafs would be up by 3 three goals late in the third so that maybe they can throw that Bishop kid in net, would have been a cool story

Was thinking a similar thing. When the Leafs had a face-off in the offensive end with I think it was 1.6s left in the period. I was hoping they would give the kid those 1.6s. At least he could have said he was on the ice in an NHL game :)

Even on that play, Lilly did a decent job recovering and didn't let Stutzle get around him. He made an A+ chance into more of a B chance. The GA he did his job. Muzzin was terribly out of position.
There was another in the 3rd period which wasn't even his fault. Simmonds threw a terrible pass into his skates

Hockey is a game of inches from 2-2 and 3-1.

These 2 teams played each other close in this back to back series with both missing their best player.

Micheal entered the game thinking Bunting, but he ended up hitting a home run to seal the deal in the end.

I lived in markham and Sheppard area of scarbs for 10 years near malvern, now in Durham

I always root for scarb born players (though Toffoli is hard to root for due to his team)

Now there are so many breakfast places. But people forget that Markham station was the only place that was 24 hours if you craved some English breakfast 3 am in the morning. Still a fav of mine

Good point.

Matthews should be this teams captain... he has tons of swagger - reminds me a bit of Ovechkin. Both Marner and Tavares seem to lack confidence and don't have a lot of swagger (even though Marner thinks he has it). It's getting tiresome watching Marner hanging his head after every missed opportunity as if he's in disbelief that the puck isn't going in and the hockey gods hate him or something. It couldn't be that he lacks goal scoring skillsets (weak shot, lack of shot variation etc).

I think Tavares is one of those guys who would be better off without the C, he seems like a guy that shouldn't be the "it" guy. Reilly is a strange A too.... from the Amazon series, he seems quite introverted. With an exception to Matthews, the rest of the players with letters lack leadership qualities.

No question though, Matthews should have the C on this team. He is the face of this franchise and he radiates confidence.

Does anyone even feel like Tavares is this teams captain and not Matthews?

Matthews should have the C, he just wasn't ready for it when they gave it to JT. Stripping him now would just make things awkward. I just have a terrible feeling about Tavares and this franchises future, he just doesn't seem to have "it" anymore. He's still decent but he hasn't looked anywhere near elite, then again it's only 3 games in.

Marner needs to beef up a little, his shots have little to no velocity.

That number of empty seats in a third period during the first Saturday night game of the season is embarrassing.

I had tickets to the game that I couldn't use. I couldn't sell them for even half of face value. The demand for Leafs tickets is simply not there this year

I was thinking it was Muzz nursing the injury the other day, not Holl.

Having Amadio dress as the extra d-man makes me think Matthews is playing tomorrow but also makes me think Muzzin is playing tomorrow as well, otherwise they would have called up a D no?

They'd need to waive amadio to call up another dman so maybe they're waiting to see if muzz or holl can go.

Good win tonight

I don’t know about you guys, but for me, something feels off about this team this year and I can’t seem to put my finger on it. Maybe it’s just because Matthews isn’t in the lineup.

It's the ripple effect on the lines because of Matthews' absence. Hopefully they'll get in a groove when he returns.

Chabot played in both games.

Good bounce back win, wasn't a dominating performance but played good enough to win.

Line 1: can't seem to get a goal, would concern me if they weren't getting any chances but that empty net series pretty much sums it up.
Line 2: Nylander solid game again, Bunting brings everyone into the fight which is good for the team, Kerfoot had a meh game
Line 3: Thought they were good some parts of the game, other parts not so much. Kampf provides nothing offensively so its gonna be up to his wingers to do most of the work.
Line 4: Thought they played well, Amaido isn't it though, doesn't provide much out there.

I feel the opposite. They looked more organized and efficient than they have since Pat Burns was the coach.

sorry ottawa PP goal*

also he was getting beat by Stutzle a lot down the right side. His gap control needs a lot of work. Idk I think we over hype our prospects, outside of the blocked shot, he wasn’t spectacular. To me Dermott and Sandin are the future of this D core.

I don't necessarily disagree, I just think he has looked good and has definite potential to be a good addition. As far as getting beat by Stutzle, our best defensive defenceman (Brodie) was getting beat by Stutzle last night. Stutzle had moments of brilliance last night, just didn't have the goals to show for it.
