He was so terrible defensively that he was on for 1 goal (someone can verify) in the entire tournament, exhibition games and intersquad games (not 100% sure about the last one). No doubt, he's not a shut down physical dman but his strengths offensively especially on a team that lacked defencemen that could join the play outweigh any weaknesses in his own end. Lowry showed zero confidence in him. Was it deserved? Not by what he showed in the actual games but practices who knows. Maybe that's why Lowry kept on playing the same 6 players (forwards and D) over and over again during the games because they were so good in practice... god knows they didn't perform when the actual games were being played lol. Worst Canadian coaching job in the history of the tournament hands down!

He was on the ice for one goal against in the entire tournament. Meanwhile the top four defenders gave up goal after goal and provided almost no offense. That's a major reason why Canada lost three games out of five and Lowry is a laughing stock.

Not surprising that opinion....he is a Flames fan...so Brandon Hickey fan. You know, they guy who also was on TC in a supposed shutdown role and was always picking the puck out of his net.

Sanheim gave up chance after chance after chance. I'm not sure how many goals he was on for but he played 3rd line minutes against the other teams bottom lines, and still struggled. How does that deserve a bigger role? Canada gave him every chance to take a top four spot and he couldn't nail it down.
He's a good prospect. I've seen him With the Hitmen a lot. Tons of offensive potential and he's a great skater. But there's no doubt he's still a mess in his own zone. That's why he didn't play much in the tournament. That's just the truth of the matter. That's the major weakness in his game. I've heard some flyers fans say Sanheim > Provorov which isn't even close to true.
Hickey only was on the ice for 4 scoring chances in the first three games (only 2 against Matthews/Tkachuk). Not one Canadian player, except Travis Konecny did anything good against the Swedes. And Hickey had two bad plays in the final game that hurt them, no doubt. Hickey has got a long way to go moving the puck. But he can really skate and he's a great defender and that's why he was on the top pairing ahead of guys like Sanheim, Dermott and Mckewon.

He was given every chance to be a top four guy in summer camp and pre-tournament games. In the actual tourney he played in a fairly minimal role. Hicketts had a top four spot locked, Fleury was a lock. Everyone thought Sanheim was a lock but he lost the final two spots to Hickey and Chabot.
Where were those chances again? Sanheim is the best PP defenseman in the WHL, yet he wasn't on the 1st PP unit. Heck, he even rotated with Dermott on the 2nd! Why even take him ot the team, when you refuse to use him in a situations, where he thrive? (for the record, I know, he got little more PP opportunities down the road, but stil...)
I, for one, could care less about TC and Sanheim's usage for that team. In fact, I believe he will (should) be more motivated going forward. Prove them wrong, Travis!

Sanheim saw such limited time and questionable usage that I'm surprised that you feel confident enough to have such a strong opinion on the matter.

Simply incorrect. I hope, for your sake, that you're just trolling because otherwise this is an alarming lack of knowledge and common sense.
He easily played well enough to be in a top 2 role, let alone top 4. He had a few mistakes, same as all those other defensemen, but the difference is that he also provided something else apart from those mistakes. Guys like Hicketts, Fleury, Hickey, etc all played poorly defensively but also showed zero offensive talent. Sanheim had less defensive mistakes and at the same time generated a lot of offense when givien his pathetic amount of PP time or offensive zone starts. Unfortunately for him creating great chances doesn't get rewarded with more icetime, same as Konecny. Sanheim and Dermott get little icetime and when they did get used the my we're getting defensive zone starts or rotating turns on the PP, meanwhile Hicketts, Fleury, Hickey, and Chabot got all the offensive zone allstars and looked awful the whole time. There's a reason that by the end of the tournament it was a common theme for the GDTs to be full of people wanting more Konecny, Barzal, and Sanheim and complaining about how horrible Lowry was for under using good players and over using trash ones (the defensive top 4, Perlini, Virtanen, etc). All three of them were severely underused by a terrible coach and that's not even debatable.
So like I said, you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

He is still great offensively, and working on his defence. One or Two years in the AHL should help him defensively and give him time to fill out his frame. Just like Josh Morrisey. He's going to be good, but be patient. Provorov appears a year ahead of Sanheim at this point

I would say so. I think Ivan is on the big club next year while Travis does at least one season in the AHL.

Last year they only had one pick that was a D and he was picked because he was clearly BPA.

Just think, one of Ghost, Provorov or Sanheim will be the 3rd best prospect we have on D. So either:
Dman breaking NHL records
Best all around D in Jr
Most offensive Dman in Jr
....one will still only be the 3rd best. Love our future D!

Lol...honestly, with these 2 I don't even care. Morin brings such a different element that the others don't, he will be valuable in his own way. Can't wait to have his meanness and size on our blueline.
And with Myers, hey, he was a free gift who could be the RHD we want to compliment these other guys. But I expect he will be slow cooked and will spend 1 more year in Jr, then 2 more in the AHL. By then Ghost will be a 26 year old vet and we will be putting together something special.
This year: Ghost
Next year: Provorov, Morin
2 years Sanheim, Hagg
3 years Friedman
4 years Myers

Never said it was a bad thing. I have been extremely pleased with our drafting and I had Provorov at 5 in my personal rankings.
All fine picks. A first rounder, 2nd rounder, 5th rounder and a 6th rounder. Nice to see some of our later picks are doing well however, our forward prospect pool is average at best, which is a good thing, because if we had a really good forward prospect pool it would probably mean our defensive pool would be weaker.
