Sanheim catching Nick Merkley

Could he lead the WHL in D scoring in back to back years? Calgary just does not score like say Brandon does so I am not sure. Glad we have both him and Provorov :)

Sanheim > Provorov.
I'm starting to lean this way too, though really they're both just phenomenal prospects. Sanheim is so fun to watch, beautiful skater, very smart, great hands, and becoming pretty damn good defensively too.

Very jealous of the Flyers d prospects, two guys with 1D potential in Sanheim and Provorov, another two borderline blue-chippers in Gostisbehere and Morin, and Hagg looks like he could mature into a 4/5D too. Hopefully Giroux and Voracek are still elite forwards once all these young d start hitting their primes!

Any word on Sanheim's injury? It will be a piss-off if he misses the Canada/Russia game.

7 points in 5 games (at least a point in each game) since returning has to be pretty reassuring, at the very least.

Yeah especially considering he hasn't been playing quite to the level that he was prior to missing almost a month to injury. Still knocking off some rust.

How was Bean's play with Sanheim out? Or did you stop watching when Sanheim was out?

Didn't watch. He's really improved his shot since last year though (as the goal total suggests). He can pick corners with the best of them. Has hit probably a dozen or so posts as well.

Anyone else surprised at how little he played in the game today versus the Swedes? Even with a number of Canadian D not performing that well...I would guess well under 10 mins of ice.

Seems like he might be the #7... Very weird.

He should be playing more than McKeown at least

I agree.

He needs to be used more on the PP. Don't remember seeing him out there at all today. They didn't even use him on either special team. I think would even be fine on the top PK with Fleury, then play Hickey with Hicketts or McKeown on PK2. Regardless, no PP time is nuts.

It is bizarre that he is not on PP1 frankly. Or even if the 'fit' is not there helping QB PP2 from the back end.

I mean... this is arguably the best PP Dman in the CHL. Heck, he is most probably the best offensive defenseman currently in the CHL!

These are still preliminary games right? Maybe they're just seeing what other guys have before unleashing their secret weapon on the tournament. Wouldn't want Sweden to have a lot of practice against him if they end up squaring off later when it matters

Exactly this. Trying to see who would replace Sanheim on the #1 PP is he goes down to injury.

I don't to watch a ton of CHL games so I'm not as familiar with some of the other Canadian defenders as I am with Sanheim, but it seemed to me that the consensus was that Sanheim was a borderline lock to be a top 4 defenseman and playing PP1. Is there any reasoning behind his lack of playing time, other than possibly either coaching or just that it's a preliminary game?

Don't see much point in holding him out. This is their last tuneup before a big game on the 26th. Just a case of over-coaching. Oh well. Easier matchup for the States.

Game 1 will show how dumb the coach is. If Sanheim is the #7 dman, Canada won't win.

I agree that if they play him as a #7 it will be extremely dumb. The whole they won't win without him is a huge exaggeration though and I am a huge fan.
