This one is pretty damn awkward though LMFAO

He is a very fast riser in the rankings. Already invited to WJC Team Canada camp.

I think he had a very strong U18s which drove up his stock. I actually thought he would have been the 3rd defenseman taken.

I was a little surprised that Honka went where he did.

No surprise that Sanheim went top 20. Sounds like Minnesota and/or Tampa Bay wanted him but the Flyers snagged him right before they picked.

I'll guess 14th ish on the early end and say he doesn't get past the 25th-26th pick range. If I had to bet $ I'd bet it will be closer to 15th than 26th.

The kids upside is huge and he didn't hurt himself at the combine based on the teams I spoke to. I chatted with him casually for 15 minutes while I ate lunch and he impressed me big time.

Well stated. You guys were right on the money about this young man.

If he can improve or keep up his pace from the 2nd half of last season he could end end up being nearly PPG next year, which would be huge. Can't wait to watch him play more.

The Flyers have signed 2014 1st-round pick D Travis Sanheim to an entry-level contract.

He was sent back to Calgary yesterday. Before that he played in 1 preseason game vs Washington where he looked very, very good. Everyone has been quite impressed with this kid.

Scored 2 ES goals tonight in his first game back in the WHL. Off to a good start!

That was his second game back and his first game he looked pretty rusty. He was beat pretty bad on a powerplay and Medicine Hat scored a shorty, took a dumb penalty out of frustration to end the second. Overall it was a really off night.

Sanheim and Thomas(Tampa 4th rounder) are expected to be the top pairing is my guess but they were separated during the MH game as they didn't look too good.

All that being said it was his first game back and probably needed to get adjusted.

I am a season ticket holder for the Hitmen and I am a huge fan of his. I've had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and he seems to be a good kid with a good attitude and to be honest, I was not surprised he was taken in the mid first round last year.

I didn't see the game VS. Lethbridge tonight but Lethbridge is a team that Calgary should put a beating on (9-2 final for Calgary). Actually I am hoping Calgary makes a strong push for the Memorial cup this year but it is early.

I think his path is 2 more years in the WHL (this year and next) then 2 years in the AHL, depending how he puts on weight because he is pretty lanky.

Anyway, I'll update his progress this season in this thread for those interested.

Edit: 3rd star of the game tonight against Lethbridge

Not surpised, he was spending the past few weeks on the east coast. Sometimes that can mess you up getting adjusted back to your normal setting (he was sent back the day before the game).

For sure any upades would be greatly appreciated. Nice to hear from people who get to watch him rather than just looking for boxscores and hilights.

He needs to have a great 1st half to get serious consideration for TC WJC.

That sounds pretty conservative. Honestly if it takes him that long, it probably won't be a good thing for us. I think if he keeps progressing, he may get a long look next year at training camp. Probably a long shot as it will most likely be a numbers game with all the young defensemen the Flyers have acquired over the last two years. I expect him to have a big year as the lead dog. Like any young defenseman he has things to work on, but the present skills combined with the projection gets me excited. He's so smooth and smart out there. Always seems to make the right play.

But he's too small, like Bezer mentioned. Patience...

Uhm he's really not that small at 189 lbs. & still has another year of adding good weight. He'll likely be playing around 210 lbs. when all is said & done.

We all saw how much of difference Morin looked coming into camp this year with an added 10+ lbs. of good weight.
