If Provorov is ready, there's a good chance Sanheim is as well. I think Flyers could definitely take him at #7, but I have a feeling he might get taken earlier. Some of the bottom teams really need high end defense in the their system. (That definitely includes the Flyers). Having said that We might need a young scorer, more at this point.

You will get either Provorov or Werenski at 7 if you want. I could see provorov slide into the top 5 though.

Hextall has said that he will go for a forward IF there are 2 guys that are equal. FWIW, I am fine with either Dman but man we need a RHD more since Sanheim, Morin, Ghost and Hagg are all LHD.

Lol....crazy that I have to bump a thread from May. No one talks about how good he is.

Ho hum, 10 points in 6 games. Leads his team in scoring. Leads WHL in D scoring along with Provorov. Tied for 11th in league scoring.

I was going to post here his 1g 3 a last night but couldn't find it. Him and Provorov are going to be awesome on Phillys backend for years to come.

Offensively he's talented but from the 3-4 games I caught this season he still needs some work defensively. Despite his size and reach, he got dangled a few times and his agility is a little rough. Good size, great offensive skill, poise, but defensively he still has flaws.

And by 3-4 games you caught this season, you mean at the summer WJC evaluation camp, in August, right?

He hasn't had to play too much defense this year in the WHL, because him and Bean always have the damn puck. The few plays he's had to defend, he's made the play. I can only recall one play where he probably could have played the kid better but recovered after initially getting beat.

He has yet to be on the ice for an ES goal.

So these "dangles" didn't end up in the net at all.

But even so, how many 19 year defensmen are great offensively AND defensively?

Led the WHL in D scoring last year. Was 2nd in playoffs for D scoring. Now leading WHL in D scoring again.

Also he is tied for 3rd in LEAGUE scoring.

Ho hum...

Ok, so? There were several shifts I saw when he had trouble moving the puck around an opposing forechecker.

He had a rough preseason game where he didn't look like himself. He's got a whole season to be ready for next preseason and he looks amazing so far.

I'm not sure a one game sample size at a level he needs to adjust to is much reason to worry. He does need to improve defensively but can anyone say he hasn't been consistently improving? It's strange to me that the nonFlyers fans that are voicing up have decided to be down on a prospect that has done nothing but improve and is already fantastic in many parts of the game. His game as it stands and where it projects to is something to be excited about.

I think it was definitely the right decision to return Sanheim to Calgary. Not that I thought he had much chance to crack the Flyers line-up, but this season should be all about refining the parts of his game that need work; ie, improving his D. We know he can put up points and he made great strides in defensive responsibility. What he does well, he can work on being excellent at.

Well for one, sample size. And yeah. Didn't see what you saw. Can you use a more vague description next time? If there was one thing to critique, it was his gap control. But taking one preseason game for anything more than that, is not a very sound strategy. Whatever helps you sleep at night I guess.

Season stats:
8 ES GF
1 ES GA

3 Goals + 9 assists (8 primaries)= 12 points to lead the league.

Has a hand in 12 of Calgary's 22 goals (55%) as a defenseman. He's a tremendous puck mover.

That's great that he has the puck but in the NHL he won't have the puck all the time so his defence will be exploited if not improved. Just trying to give an honest opinion because everyone knows how good he is offensively but defensively, I think a year in the AHL would be needed.

Yeah but you said he has gotten "dangled" the "3-4 times" you saw him this year. And I'm saying I haven't seen that because he and his partner Bean have been dominating possession when they have been out there. Unless of course you are referring to the WJC camp as your "3-4 game" viewing, in which case yes, he wasn't great defensively in the first week of August having not skated too much prior to the camp. I agree.

As far as him not having the puck all the time in the NHL, yes it will be more difficult, but that is a transferable skill. He is an exceptional puck mover. His hockey sense is incredible. Does he need to get better defensively? Yes, even to his own admission, but I think his defensive flaws get overly exaggerated.

I watched the summer camp games but I also saw 2 Hitmen games this season where he did great offensively but defensively seemed like he couldn't skate to well. I think it's his agility when he has to turn back, sideways, that he has trouble. But he still hasn't fully grown into his body either it seems, looks a little too lanky at 6'3. I've seen the same move where a forward puts it through his stick and goes around him almost scoring. He doesn't turnaround quick enough to know the puck away and a forward gets a shot off once skating around him. That's one play I've seen beat him a few times.

Which Hitmen games did you watch this year? I only seen him get beat once and he still recovered to make the play.
