With his impressive showing at the WJC, does he still has a chance of being selected in the first two rounds, even if he is one year older ?

Wouldn't say he goes top 60. Last year I had him in the 2nd round and he wasn't picked.

I think it would be a massive error for all 30 teams if he gets undrafted again though.

Pettersson in the same team was pick as number 38 overall last year and Aho is miles ahead of him. If I was a GM and in a need of a mobile d-men I would definitely pick him in the first round. Maybe not early first round since there is no indication of him being pick early first round, but if I had a late pick in the first round.

Hah. He's good, but he's not THAT good. If he gets picked it'll be in one of the last rounds (as it is with most overagers.)

He was the best d-men in the last WJC 20 and he has been one of the best players in skellefteå when I have watch at least. He is without doubt in my mind one of the best if not the best 96 d-men in the world, at least outside NHL. He is better then almost all players from the 2014 draft right now.

If Ekblad wasnt pick last year should he becuase of that be drafted in the last rounds because of that? Make no sense to me, when you know more about he players development and know that they are making progress to rank them lower. He is better than Hanifin and Kylington right now.

He wasn't even the best D in team Sweden. Come on, now..

I don't know him much, but do people know why he went undrafted 2 times?

Size. I'd draft him over lots of Swedes picked in the last couple of drafts though. He was pretty much a top pairing D last WJC and will be the clear #1 in the upcoming tournament while likely being the only undrafted one.

Once again, what makes a guy like Vill Saarijärvi get drafted but not Aho?
The scouts obviously see something in him that they don't like. I'm sure Håkan Andersson would have picked Aho over Saarijärvi (or even a later pick) if he thought he was a better prospect. It may be skating, compete level, defensive game etc. I agree it is weird when you look at some of the other players picked over him.

I'm becoming increasingly certain that he spat every GM in the league in the face during the interviews. Keeping my fingers crossed for him to get invited to the Jets prospect camp now.

I don't get it. He's small, no doubt, but I'm sure there have been other small Swedish D-men from the north who were drafted late in the draft and surprised everyone by becoming an impact player in the NHL and WHY DIDN'T WE DRAFT ENSTRÖM 2.0!?

Seriously though. 1.5 seasons in the SHL by the age of 19. And unlike many other players, he stuck in the SHL and made an impact. Bleh.

He was never invited to any interviews.

Many Skellefteå AIK players who were passed over have later been given the chance in North America, so Aho feels no great concern.

- There are many like Arvidsson, Melker and Alm who has ended up signing with NHL-teams, so there is no hurry. Now I am in Skellefteå, I like it here and we'll just have to see what happens.

It was the same story with Arvidsson. He was an intruigin undersized guy in his draft year, but nobody took a chance on him. Then he went on to have a great breakout year in the SHL and a good WJC, great playoffs, still no bite. He needed to actually be an elite performer at the SHL level in his draft +2 year to even get drafted, and now he had a great first year in North America and even played some NHL games, surpassing hundreds of players drafted before him in his three drafts of eligbility. Everyone following Skellefteå knew it was wrong and he was gonna be a great one, but scouts either must out-think themselves or just be so scared to make a bust pick on a smaller guy, because year after year they pass on smaller, more talented guys and draft clearly inferior talent.

Lukas Bengtsson is another one like that. Everyone who followed his season could see he was special, next year he'll be one of the best young d-men in the SHL and everyone will look silly again for not drafting him, instead has to compete with 20 other teams for his signature. Book it.

But the confusing thing is that considering the number of players who get drafted in the 5/6/7th round whose CEILING is a 4th line player in the NHL that it makes zero sense to not take a chance on a skilled smaller guy. Even if that 7th round pick turns out great and you get a 4th line player so what? 4th line players are dime a dozen in free agency. Atleast drafting a guy like Aho you look like a genius if he pans out and if he doesn't oh well it was a late round pick anyways

Yeah, too much focus on getting NHL players, if you draft a player, develop him for 4-5 years get a third liner or fourth liner at >1M, most of the time you could've snapped your fingers and got him for a 7th in a trade or from the waiver wire anyway. The players you can't get are the top-4 d-men and the top-6 forwards.

Yes, weird that none of the teams did'nt take a chance with a late round pick. Nothing to lose. Maybe his finnish namesake messed it up by being picked in the 2nd round?

I think people capable of running NHL franchises are capable of telling apart two guys who have different nationalities and play different positions.

I have no faith in people running NHL franchises when it comes to determine players nationalities since the Florida Panthers management thought swede Johan Garpenlöv was a russian some 20 years ago ;)
