It's very odd. Considering some of the guys that got picked up he feels like an obvious pick. Small or not the odds of him making it are clearly better than some of the picks my Oilers made for example. Imo ofc and I'm not exactly a pro scout.

Aho still trumps Pettersson in terms of potential. He's just way more skilled. (And I say that as a friend to MPs father...)

Well, the Ducks have been scouting Sweden a lot over the past years (highlighted by picks of Lindholm and Karlsson), and obviously saw his team this year a fair bit, too. They also historically aren't afraid of going with small players when they see the talent there, like with Vatanen (or Kevin Roy or Grant Besse at the forward position). They obviously saw something quite different than you and had Pettersson way higher. And they are one of the elite drafting teams of the past years.

30 NHL team's scouting staff disagrees with you.

There's so many undrafted players in the NHL it's not that unlikely someone who went undrafted this year will end up one of the best 96 or late 95 born players.

...yes? Otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I'm not saying Aho should've been picked higher than Pettersson, I'm saying it's mind boggling to see him drafted that high while Aho wasn't drafted at all.

...Even more mind boggling to see Andreas Söderberg there. He has potential and is a fairly good skater for his size but he's very much a J20 player. Still has a looong way to go. To see him get picked and not Aho is sort of like putting your hopes on Viktor Svedberg instead of Tobias Enström.

Very good performance from Aho yesterday in the CHL. At times he toyed with the opposition from the blue line. Still baffled that he went undrafted.

Teams are going to regret not picking him in the later rounds, if they want him next draft they are probably going to have to use a middle round pick on him. This is Viktor Arvidsson all over again.

he's 5'10 now, hope he can grow to 5'11

Doubt that's the breaking point. Rather if he can get even quicker and be able to defend against bigger forwards. Admittedly, he's already capable at the European level. He's been very impressive this pre-season(incl. U20 camp) and I think that'll be the case in the SHL and WJC too.

will be drafted this summer for sure

This. He looks more polished and composed than last year. Seeing him last year he was in my eyes just a smallish defenseman with some tools, this year he seems a lot more sturdier and plays with more poise. Somebody will use a pick on him.

It's so strange how teams could 2nd round picks on Hägg, Englund & Bergman while not even using a 7th on Aho. I had him as the top swedish D before last draft and he is proving right now that he is on a different level.

Yeah its pretty sad that nobody even throw him a 7th pick. Yeah he is small, but there is other things than size that counts, like being good at playing hockey.

Hope that the Wings pick him next time if nobody else does.

I wonder if they have him mixed up with the finnish guy.

It's probably because the description comes from a different website automatically. I'm guessing the way they identify the players is by name, and for one reason or another the Finnish forward comes up first. A technical problem rather than a human error in other words. They'll have it fixed soon enough no doubt.

Sooo.. who will do the smart thing and get Aho this summer? I can't believe that not one single team picked him last year.

i think he'll be a 3rd-5th round pick this year.. but yea as alot of ppl have mentioned he should have been drafted last year, oh well

Is it possible he simply fell through the cracks because it's a combination of it being a size queen draft and teams assuming he would be drafted earlier so they didn't account him? I mention the latter because Lindholm was drafted.

What makes a guy like him go undrafted, when a guy like Honka goes 14th(?) overall?
