The kid has looked very good. Size, skating, hockey IQ. I think he will play top minutes for a long time in the NHL.

I like Power a lot but I think the hype is a little too much. At the NHL level, I think he will end up more like a Bouwmeester type... or eventually an Ekblad type. I really don't see the "Hedman upside" in him, but that's just me. Living up to expectations of being the next Victor Hedman are unrealistic imo.

lol @ why isnt Wright in the NHL if he's so good. He's 17, gotta wait another year unfortunately.

As for Power, everything i've read screams Ryan Suter to me. Effective & efficient without being flashy in any way. Big & strong but quite passive, uses smart positioning & stickwork to excel defensively, excellent passer, can play the PP but offensively is quite vanilla (but still very effective). Does that seem like a fair comparable?

I know lots of people want more flash from a 1OV but as a Canucks fan id be ecstatic to get a Suter clone.

In a draft without top elite talent, a defender of the level of Ekblad and Bouwmeester 1OA is already good. He's the safest choice of this draft. Predictions on the evolution of a player's level; it's like the weather - it's regularly wrong. No one is a mage to predict Power's career. Just as Hedman's career took shape gradually.

Power's history in NHL did not begin. One cannot predict that he will never reach Hedman's current level. His chances of reaching it are real.

He’s is 100% going 1st overall now and rightfully so.

It took a while, but the 2021 draft finally has a clear cut best prospect.

I agree. Found myself trying to poke holes in his game, but the truth is he’s a manchild who probably isn’t even done growing and has a great base of skills. You take this foundation (6’6 200+ lbs, good puck skills and skating) and continue to build on it. Definitely 1st overall in this crop.

Wish he were meaner (Chris Pronger), but I’ll take offensive instincts and footspeed over toughness 9 times outta 10.

See, I actually feel like there's very little hype for Power considering he seems to be gaining a bit of separation as the top player in this draft class.

If you get a player as good as Ekblad, without the injuries that have unfortunately hampered Aaron for a while, that's a great pick. At 25 years old he was firmly in the Norris conversation prior to his injury this year.

The Hedman comparison I think is usually more stylistic. If people thought that Power was very likely to have that impact, a perennial Norris candidate and Conn Smythe winner, then the hype would be much closer to what we saw with Dahlin.

I'm not in love with every single aspect of Power's game, but he's a really good prospect and I think that fans of whichever team wins the lottery this Wednesday should be really excited.

I can see the Hedman comparisons. Remember Hedman didn’t set the world on fire his first few years in TB. Power said in an interview he is considering returning to Michigan for a season. Might be the best development path for him regardless of who drafts him. The NHL is not kind to 18 year old dmen.

Drysdale did it. Power may be able to but I still would send him back to college.

Drysdale did not do it. His underlying numbers in Anaheim were brutal. You can stick any 18 year old dman into the league it doesn’t mean they were effective. I like Drysdale, think he will be a really good player. The team that drafts Power should probably send him back for his long term future development.

I agree, I’m just saying Drysdale isn’t a great example of succeeding at 18. I think his future is bright but he didn’t really succeed at 18.

he definitely slowed down at the end of the year, but if you watched the games he was one of best players many games. Also, he was in no way being sheltered. In fact he was getting top assignments many games. You would be hard pressed to find someone who watched the games and did not come away thinking he belonged in the NHL.

He was our best defensemen on many nights.... slowed down toward last couple games of season but yeah....
